**UPDATE: I’ve put together a free printable for this Advent reading plan! Go to this post to download and print it!**

Believe it or not, I had never heard of the The Jesus Storybook Bible before the Relevant Conference.

Once I got my hands on a copy, I knew it was something I needed to share about!

What is the The Jesus Storybook Bible?

The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the story beneath all the stories in the Bible. At the center of the story is a baby, the child upon whom everything will depend. Every story whispers his name. From Noah to Moses to the great King David–every story points to him. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle–the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle. A Bible like no other, this book invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God’s great story of salvation–and at the center of their story too. Recommended for ages 4 to 8. (from ChristianBook.com)

The boys and I have loved every story we have read out of it so far and they ask for more daily! It is beautifully illustrated and the stories are the perfect length to keep their attention! It couldn’t get much better!

Then I saw this post about using the The Jesus Storybook Bible for Advent. Genius, I tell you.

There are 21 Old Testament stories in this Bible. Each one ends with a short paragraph about how the story relates to Jesus’ coming. Follow that with three stories about the birth of Christ and you have 24 days worth of material to go through with your family starting December 1st! And it helps tie the whole Bible together for even the littlest ones in your household!

Here is what the plan looks like:

A few more precious gems from the wonderful people of Zondervan

Noisy animals on the ark, jumpy frogs in Pharaoh’s soup, dreamy angels on the stairway to heaven—peek under the flaps and make these and three other Bible stories come alive! Just right for beginning readers, Nolan’s humorous text and Nadine Wickenden’s spritely illustrations will delight your preschoolers—and teach them important truths from God’s Word. A beautifully illustrated picture book for children ages 4-7. If I Were a Mouse depicts a child imagining what adventures he would have if he were one of God’s amazing animals. This book will teach your child how wonderful it is to be a child of God blessed with the gift of imagination.

These are both wonderful books as well! The kids will be getting them for Christmas, but I can tell you that I loved looking through them before the hubby wrapped them up! So glad to have well-written and illustrated Christian books that capture the attention of my boys!
