Deny Yourself: A New True Beauty Film from Lisa Chan

The True Beauty Films from Lisa Chan have truly been a breath of fresh air for me.

Lisa speaks with such calm and confidence. And her love for the Lord comes through in every word.

Deny Yourself 300x250Deny Yourself is the latest installment and I hate to admit just how much I need this message right now. Like, even as I write this right now.

God has been speaking to me all over the place about less of me and more of Him. In order to move towards that space, I need to start saying a lot more hard “no’s” to myself.

I needed Lisa’s voice to remind me of this once again. And the story Irene tells of her life throughout the DVD pulled me along as well and reminded me that HIS plan is always so much greater then MY plan. The lives impacted by Irene’s decision to follow Him just floored me. {You might need a few Kleenex}

“Love God, love others” has been resonating in my head big time this past week. Doing both requires a lot of denying of oneself. And I want to do both well.

Take a look at this beautiful trailer for Deny Yourself

The True Beauty films come with discussion materials that would make them perfect for a women’s event or Bible study, but just watching them at home on my own as I fold laundry or cook dinner has been a blessing to me.

I would love to bless one of you with this newest True Beauty DVD, Deny Yourself! Just leave a comment below to be entered! The giveaway will close tomorrow {Thursday} at midnight!

Talking Truth With Our Kids + DVD Giveaway!

Honesty

April is National Honesty Month. Honesty is such an important virtue to teach our children, but it is also important for us to be honest with them. And our honesty about our own struggles can be life-giving to them. You can read more about how I chose to be honest with my children about my battle with lying over at the Tommy Nelson blog today.

And as we try to establish these important character traits early on, I am so thankful for the resources being provided by companies like Tommy Nelson to help us get these messages through in fun and engaging ways!

This month, we had the privilege of viewing two fun DVDs from Tommy Nelson that the boys and I just loved!

Hermie Truth

I Will Tell the Truth is a collection of two classic Hermie episodes emphasizing the importance of honesty and the words we say. We love the Hermie books and movies here! The episode, “Flo the Lyin’ Fly,” was especially impacting to the kids and I. The story is similar to the Boy Who Cried Wolf, and we had a great discussion about how we build a reputation through our words, whether they are true or lies. Flo had gained a reputation as a liar so no one would believe her when she DID finally tell the truth. What a hard lesson to learn and the boys were really upset that no one would believe Flo – so many great conversations can come out of this DVD!

Cocka Doodle Doo

We also greatly enjoyed Cocka Doodle Doo the Right Thinga fabulous story about the Golden Rule set on a farm! This DVD features the voice talents of two singers I adore, Amy Grant and Vince Gill, and the cast of characters is such fun! Hercules the Rooster is at the center of the story as a full-of-himself rooster who thinks he is too important to help clean up around the farm. Hercules treats those around him quite rudely as the day goes on, but Hercules is the one who gets an unpleasant surprise at the end of the day because of his bad attitude! In addition to a great lesson, there is also fun music and lots of laughs!

You can win a set of these two great Tommy Nelson DVDs right here, right now!

What’s in the Bible? Goes New Testament! {Giveaway}

The much anticipated TENTH volume of What’s in the Bible? has arrived and the timing is just perfect!

What’s in the Bible? Volume 10: Jesus is the Good News takes the series into the New Testament for the first time. The two 25-minute episodes cover time between the Old and New Testament, the four gospels and the life of Jesus here on earth.

This volume follows in the great tradition of What’s in the Bible?, providing lots of Bible information, heart application, music and laughter! The meaning of “New Testament,” the authors of the gospels, the life of Jesus, and much more are covered in the smart and witty Phil Vischer-style we’ve all come to love!

I mentioned the perfect timing because this DVD is a wonderful resource to share about Jesus’s death and resurrection during this Lent and Easter season! I was so moved by the way What’s in the Bible? handled this tough subject for kids – with music and sorrow and gratitude to Jesus for His sacrifice for our sins. I definitely teared up watching it. I also applaud What’s in the Bible? for including a call for salvation for kids AND adults in this volume, encouraging those who don’t know Jesus to talk to a friend or pastor. I pray this will reach and change many hearts for Him!

If your family hasn’t started your What’s in the Bible? collection yet, you can get a great deal on all TEN volumes that have been released through the rest of this month! Order volumes one through ten as a bundle and enter the code BUNDLE10 at checkout to get 20% off!

Veggie Tales + Mother Goose = The Little House That Stood!

Just when I think VeggieTales can’t come up with any more ideas because they’ve already had a zillion, they prove me wrong!

This time they’re tackling  a classic children’s story, a parable, Mother Goose, and the theme of making good choices in The Little House That Stood!

TheLittleHousethatStood 2

It all starts with “The Wise Pig Built His House Upon the Rock!”

When the Three Little Pigs roll into town looking to build some new houses, they meet one builder with a plan and two without a clue!  Larry builds with hay, Mr. Lunt builds with bricks, but only Bob builds his houses on a firm foundation – following the wise plans from the “Master Builder’s Handbook!”   Will they choose the right builder that will keep their houses – and their lives – on solid ground?  Find out in this pig’s tale that shows kids that when we follow God’s blueprints, we can make the right choices!

And the DVD goes on to include a Veggie-tastic retelling of Humpty Dumpty in the “The Good Egg of Gooseville!”

As I mentioned in my previous post on integrity, making good choices has been an important topic in our household lately, so this DVD came at the perfect time! I just love how VeggieTales makes Christian character-building fun and memorable!

And as a parent, I appreciate that VeggieTales and Focus on the Family have partnered together to provide a discussion guide in the bonus features!

Veggie Super Heroes!

You cannot even imagine the excitement around our house when the trailer for The League of Incredible Vegetables came on before another Veggie Tales movie.

And then I showed it to the boys :)

The DVD arrived in our mailbox the other day and it did not disappoint! My super heroes needed to get into character right away…

The message of The League of Incredible Vegetables is one of overcoming fear – a message my boys picked up on very clearly in the first watching.

In fact, Big J told me his favorite part was when Junior realized he no longer had anything to fear because he trusted in God! And then my heart melted…

Obviously, Little J liked “the part where the little guy bounces all over the place!” {said with wild, crazy hand movements to illustrate}

And my favorite part? The AWESOME theme song from the Newsboys, which you can see right here:

I LOVE having a super hero movie for the boys that focuses on the true source of all our strength and power! Thank you, Big Idea!

The League of Incredible Vegetables is available TODAY and, of course, we think YOU need to see it, so Veggie Tales is giving away one copy right here today!

Just leave a comment on this post telling your favorite super hero to be entered!

You can also tweet and post on Facebook about this giveaway for extra entries! Just leave a separate comment for each entry!

Little Ones Can Do Big Things Too!

We still call him Little J even though there is a younger brother in the house now.

At four years old, he’s in that stage where I can’t believe how fast he is growing but he still needs his mom and dad for certain things. Some days he seems so big, some days so small. I’m sure with him being the middle child, he will feel this way for much of his life.

He wants to be just like his brother. His big brother. But there are times he realizes he is just not quite big enough yet, and my heart breaks to think that he might feel he is not enough.

Little J wants big things to do. He wants responsibility. He wants to be included on projects and adventures. And we want him to know, although he is a “little brother,” he has plenty to offer to our family and the world!

I see it as he draws pictures with lots of details and explains every part to me. His pieces of art have a BIG place in my heart.

I see it as he learns to read and wants to share the words with all of us. Reading to Mommy or Daddy or one of his brothers is a BIG deal and we celebrate it!

Most of all, we see the great satisfaction on his face when he does a BIG act of kindness for someone in the family. We make sure kindness and compassion and service are rewarded because, even for adults, these are BIG things to do for others.

He may be a little guy, but he is capable of BIG things.

I’m so glad to know Veggie Tales has released a new DVD to proclaim to the world “Little Ones Can Do Big Things Too!”

When the DVD arrived, I made sure Little J knew this was HIS movie and the message was just for him. And he can’t stop talking about it!

3-2-1 Penguins: Complete Season One!

There is just something nostalgic and wonderful about Saturday morning cartoons.

When our own children were old enough to start enjoying this special treat, I was pretty disappointed in the so-called cartoons for “kids” that were available. They featured disrespectful children, words we don’t say in our house, and were not how I wanted my children to spend that time!

Then we happened to discover that our local NBC station aired Veggie Tales every Saturday morning – and there was much rejoicing! And because of this revelation, we also discovered a new show that the boys latched on to right away:

3-2-1 Penguins follows two children, Michelle and Jason, as they take wacky adventures with space penguins Fidgel, Midgel, Zidgel, and Kevin! Space penguins?! Of course the boys love this show! Big J likes the show because “Midgel is cool,” and Little J because “Kevin is funny.”

And I love 3-2-1 Penguins because each episode has a wonderful Scripture-based character lesson to go along with it! Another great product from the great minds at Big Idea!

Maybe your family is not the Saturday morning cartoon type – you’re on the go or your children sleep in {can your kiddos train mine?!} – so you’ve never been able to catch an episode of this great show. I have good news for you today!

3-2-1 Penguins: Complete Season One comes out on DVD tomorrow, Tuesday, September 18th! That’s right – a two-disc set of all 13 episodes plus lots of fun bonus features! And it’s a great deal at just $11.99 on Amazon!

I know your family will enjoy this quirky, character-building show as much as mine!

Be Still: A New Film from Lisa Chan

Every woman knows the feeling. Regardless of her age, her income, or her family situation, women today are facing the challenges of a busy life and the stress that comes with it. Obligations to children, husband, job, church, friends, committees, and the pressures of everyday life have created a spiritual crisis for women. Because in their efforts to be everything to everyone, women have forgotten the ONE who really should be their everything.

Do YOU know this feeling? I do. All the time.

I need reminders to just BE with Jesus often so I don’t neglect the most important of all my relationships. This week, that reminder came in a beautiful short film from a well-known pastor’s wife.

Be Still is a brand new film from Lisa Chan {wife of Francis Chan}, the first in a series entitled True Beauty. This 20-minute film is like listening to a girlfriend talk about how the busy of life has pushed out any time she once had for Jesus – and how she got that time back.

I was captivated by the storytelling from Lisa in this film because I felt like she was speaking my heart. The “busy” must wait. Stillness with our Maker is essential to our very survival as women, wives, mothers, and every other role we take on. I think this would be a fabulous discussion starter for a women’s group!

Take a minute to watch the trailer for this wonderful film…

I have one copy of the True Beauty: Be Still DVD to give away today!

To enter, just tell me what “be still” means to you!

This giveaway will be open until Tuesday, September 11 at 9:00 p.m. CST. One winner will be chosen at random and notified by email.

What’s New from What’s in the Bible?! {Giveaway}

What’s in the Bible? has been busy, busy, busy making more DVDs and we are LOVING. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Volumes 7, 8, and 9 round out What’s in the Bible’s overview of the Old Testament and they are all available now!

Volume 7: Exile and Return covers the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. I just love the story of Esther and What’s in the Bible? dedicates an entire episode to this book. Totally loved it.

Volume 8: Words to Make Us Wise tackles Psalms, Proverbs, and The Writings, including Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. Oh, the hilarity that ensues when a show for kids tries to explain Song of Solomon…

And Volume 9: The Prophets wraps up the Old Testament by providing a very in-depth {but still fun) explanation of the prophets and their place in Biblical history! The boys have been walking around for days saying “Repent! Repent! snooze…” You’ll just have to watch it because it is totally awesome!

What’s in the Bible? is the best of both of worlds – the kids {and I} are completely entertained AND we are all learning so much about the Bible as we go! These DVDs are also a major part of our Bible curriculum for homeschool, especially for church and Biblical history.

And if you haven’t started your own What’s in the Bible? collection, now is the time! We’re giving away THREE COPIES of Volume 1 right here!

Just leave a comment here to be entered!

For optional additional entries, share this post on Facebook, Twitter, and/or your blog! Leave a separate comment for each way you share!
