Get It, Girl: How I Wear Activewear and a Sale for You!

I received complimentary product to review from Cents of Style and all opinions are 100% my own. This post also contains affiliate links.

I’m currently training for my first marathon. I shared some of that story here, but I have to tell you that as the days have sped by and my marathon is only three weeks away, a little bit of fear has started to creep in.

I’ve been a runner for four years now. I hated running before that, but now it is so many things to me. Running is about a healthy body AND a healthy mind for me. I run because it helps clear my head. Running used to disgust me, now it makes me happy.

Running also provides a way to challenge myself and this is where fear can factor in. I never enter a race thinking I might win, but I always have goals and sometimes those goals are scary. Like this marathon.

If I let my mind wander for too long, I start to think, “I’ve never run longer than 20 miles – how will I make it 26.2?!” or “What if feel sick or get hurt or can’t finish the race?” It’s enough to make me want to back off, but I’m not going to be that person. I don’t ever want to be the person who backs away from challenge.

Since quitting is not an option and I won’t let fear get me down, I find ways to keep myself motivated, like fun activewear with great patterns and sayings that make me want to crush the run and reach that goal!

Each #BMGMStyle challenge will have a theme. You just need to post a pic on Instagram following that theme and use the hashtag #BMGMStyle to be a part of the challenge! Shannon and I will pick our favorites to feature each week and one participant per month will win a giveaway from the month’s featured companies!

Are you ready for #BMGMStyle Challenge #2?

IMG_3599

We’re partnering with Chadwick’s today to show you some cool, calm, and casual looks for spring! My absolute favorite everyday look when the weather warms up is a maxi dress. A maxi dress is an instant outfit – no mixing and matching necessary! Just add some simple or bold accessories and you are ready to go.

I also love maxi dresses because of the practicality and comfort level. Dresses are my favorite and I love all lengths, but the maxi dress has a special place in my heart for the following reasons:

  1. I can move around easily with my boys and not worry about anything (ahem) accidentally showing.
  2. A maxi dress won’t fly up and expose others in this Nebraska wind.
  3. I can look dressed up, but feel like I’m in my pajamas.

This maxi dress from Chadwick’s is all of the reasons I love the maxi dress…

Chadwick's Maxi Dress Pin

I firmly believe every woman needs a simple black maxi dress in her wardrobe. The knit tank maxi dress from Chadwick’s is the definition of cool, calm, and casual, with bra-friendly straps, fun front pockets, and small side slits. I could throw it on in the morning for just about any occasion and feel totally at ease all day long.

Chadwick's Maxi Dress Side Chadwick's Maxi Dress Front

I also love a pop of color with my basic black. I went for red with this ensemble, with a great hat from Cents of Style and my fabulous new Avarcas. If you see me out and about with the fam this spring and summer, there’s a high probability I will be wearing a very similar outfit!

Chadwick's Skirt Square

With the Nebraska wind and active boys, shorter skirts and dresses can be a little risky for a casual, active day. But this French terry skort – a skirt with shorts hidden underneath – is a great solution for those warmer, casual days. I can look sporty yet feminine when I pair this comfy skort with my Royals tank and classic Converse!

The Perfect Spring Travel Dress

I received complimentary product from Orvis for this review.

Long road trips and weekend getaways, with family or friends, to a different city or state or country – I just love traveling. Seeing new places and meeting new people is a fun adventure, and we might do it a lot more often if not for the responsibilities and logistics of school, work, and activities.

Even with our schedules getting busier as the kids get older, we’ve managed to schedule quite a few fun trips for this spring and summer! It has become my mission to pack wisely for these trips, so finding versatile wardrobe pieces that pack well is a top priority. I just found a dress that meets all of the above criteria (and has a whole lot of awesome extra features) making it the perfect spring travel dress.

Have you ever shopped with Orvis? I will admit I had not heard of Orvis before a few months ago, but their new spring line for women has won me over with pieces that are both feminine and functional for an active lifestyle!

The Florence Travel Dress is a part of the lovely Orvis spring line.

Orvis Dress 1

This classic popover-style dress is absolutely divine for travel for so many reasons. Let’s start with these functional details: wrinkle-resistant, quick-drying, and moisture-wicking. The fabric is SPF 50 and and the sleeves can be long or rolled up. There’s a zipped pocket on one hip to keep important things close and safe. So. Much. Function.

Orvis Dress 1A

Function is one side and fashion is the other. I love the versatility of this dress. You can never go wrong with black, especially for someone like me who is likely to spill while traveling, but also for anyone going for a classic look. The Florence Travel Dress worked perfectly for church with some bold red jewelry and tan wedges, but for travel, I’ve paired it with these great, comfortable Merrell Around-Town sandals. I can just imagine wearing this exact ensemble on those trips when you’ll be walking for miles a day to sightsee and find new adventures!

Orvis Dress 3

The length of the Florence Travel Dress is modest and flattering and it has just the right cut where I’m not worried about the whole skirt flying up when the Nebraska wind rears its ugly head…which is happening every single day right now!

Orvis Dress 2

Can you tell I really love this dress? I may even wear it when I hop on a plane to head to Nashville this weekend (with a great pair of cowboy boots) because it will take me from plane to day to night effortlessly! And I will pack it for many trips to come for these same reasons – and to keep my packing simple and streamlined!

Now is the perfect time to shop the fabulous Orvis spring collection for women! Use the code ICSPRING to get $25 off your order of $50 or more through September 30, 2016!

#BMGMStyle Challenge: Spring Flats!

I received these shoes to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post, and all opinions are 100% my own. This post contains referral links.

I’m always on the hunt for new style inspiration – the latest trends, new ways to wear things already in my closet, fresh ideas for each season. I find a lot of this inspiration on Instagram, so when my friend Shannon (The Simple Moms) and I were thinking about a way to connect with other moms about fashion, we knew an Instagram style challenge would be the way to go! So today we’re introducing…

Spring flats!

Here’s the thing about spring in Nebraska – it’s still not very warm. And it’s windy. I haven’t been able to pull out any sandals yet, so I’m super thankful for fun spring flats to keep my toes warm! Spring flats make us think of sun and flowers and new life all around us – bright colors, floral prints, sparkly neutrals are all hot for spring feet!

My favorite comfy flats from Ja-Vie Flats are now available in all sorts of fun spring designs, like this one:

BMGMStyle Spring Flats

I’ve worn these beauties so many times already this spring, despite the cooler temps. The tropical pattern at least let’s me pretend warm weather has arrived! The great thing about Ja-Vie Flats is they look great with jeans and a hoodie or with a nicer dress. And because of the jelly + knit design, rainy days are no problem!

BMGMStyle Spring Flats Tall

I adore this pattern, especially all the green. Love. Did I mention these flats are washable?! Yep.

Here are two of my favorite outfits with the Ja-Vie Tropical Flats:

hoodie – Evy’s Tree // tee – Target // jeans – boutique //tropical flats – Ja-Vie Flats // earrings – Nickel and Suede // necklace – handed down from my grandma

Staying warm while still celebrating spring – that’s my style right now! Spring flats are just too much fun, right?! Check out the fabulous spring flats Shannon is styling from Ja-Vie today, too!

NOW IT’S YOUR TURN: Show us on how you wear your spring flats! Post your favorite outfit with spring flats and tag it with #BMGMStyle to join the challenge! You’ll be entered to win your very own pair of Ja-Vie Flats and more!

LulaRoe + The Amelia Dress

I received this dress to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post and all opinions are 100% my own!

I’m a little late to the LulaRoe game, but when my first pieces arrived, I was instantly in love.

First of all, there are the leggings. They are just as soft and lovely as everyone says. You need some. End of discussion.

But I want to talk about a different LulaRoe piece today: the Amelia dress.

Amelia Simple

The Amelia dress is simply one of the most comfortable and practical dresses I’ve ever owned. The flattering cut and length paired with POCKETS makes it every woman’s best wardrobe friend. And with LulaRoe, you know it comes in a million different unique colors and prints! NOTE: I’m wearing an XS, but a S could work for me as well. The fit of the Amelia depends on the fabric, so check on that before buying!

I went with the most simple styling for this first look so you could see the whole dress in all its wonder. I can’t wait for it to warm up outside (for good) so I replicate this outfit often – fun flats and classic jewelry is all you need to complement the Amelia!

Amelia Rainy Day

The reality is the weather in Nebraska is not quite warm enough on a regular basis for bare arms and legs yet, so, for now, I’m more likely to grab a cozy sweater or hoodie, some leggings, and bright boots to pair with my Amelia! I love that the dress is not too fancy to be lived in on a “normal day.”

Amelia Casual

The Amelia can also be a comfy spring day dress with a whole lot of flair! I’m loving it with my white denim jacket and Converse.

I’ve worn this dress with a black cardigan and black riding boots to church, and I could also throw it on with brown wedge sandals. I am telling you – there are endless ways to wear the Amelia dress!

LulaRoe is a fun company that operates through individual consultants, like my friend Danielle! LulaRoe offers leggings, dresses, tees, tunics, and more, all high quality and super comfortable. They make a limited number of each style and pattern, so the inventory of each consultant is unique and always changing! If you see something you like in your size, you better grab it quick because you might not find that exact piece again!

Did you know this is my birthday week?

Yep. I’m turning 35 on Friday, so I thought I might throw a little LulaRoe party for you Thursday night to celebrate! Is there any better way to celebrate than with shopping?! I think not.

Here are the details so you can join in on the LulaRoe fun:

  • Where: Danielle’s LulaRoe Facebook group (just ask to join the group!)
  • When: Thursday, March 24th at 8PM CST
  • What to expect: Just join the group before the 8PM party to find all the details on how to buy, sizing, and more!
  • Special bonus for YOU: When you checkout at the end of the party, use the code “homewiththeboys” to get free shipping on your order!

Danielle is so helpful and ships items out quickly – shopping her parties is easy and fun! I hope you’ll join us Thursday evening and maybe grab a fabulous Amelia dress of your own! See you then!

Do you own any LulaRoe pieces yet? What are your favorites?

Styling a Sweater Vest for Spring!

I received this vest to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post, and all opinions are 100% my own. I have included affiliate and referral links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

When I mention the words “sweater vest,” you probably don’t think of spring or a date night, but I’m here to change that for you today! Chadwick’s of Boston sent me one of their boyfriend sweater vests in red – perfect for this Husker alum – to review and I decided to pair it with a dress for an edgy spring date night look!

Chadwicks Vest 1

You can’t go wrong with lots of black for a night out, but I like to add a pop of color to all that black!

Chadwicks Vest 2

A boyfriend sweater vest provides that pop of color without a heavy extra layer on these warmer days. Paired with the black Dressember dress from Elegantees (the dress is currently sold out, but get 10% off your order of anything else with the code “homewiththeboys” at checkout) and my black riding boots, the vest gets a little fun and funky!

Chadwicks Vest 3

And I just adore a fun hat and great jewelry to complete a look! Because I get so much color from the boyfriend vest, I stuck with my black Cents of Style hat (on clearance for $19.95 right now) and tied it all together with a great Noonday necklace!

A sweater vest doesn’t have to be stuffy and it’s not only meant for winter! It’s fun to play with a piece like this to come up with fresh ways to wear it!

Chadwick's Vest Collage

I have teamed up with some very stylish bloggers to share different ways to wear a sweater vest this spring. Each of us are doing something different – how cool! Click on over and see…then come back and tell me how YOU want to wear a sweater vest, like the one from Chadwick’s of Boston, this season!

What I Wore: PinkBlush

I received this tunic to review. I was not compensated in any way for this post and all opinions are 100% my own.

I love finding new trendy boutiques online, don’t you?! As a mom, shopping usually involves kids in tow and that is just not as fun, so online shopping has become a favorite for me!

I was recently introduced to a fun women’s online boutique for ladies of all shapes and sizes, including you pregnant gals! PinkBlush is a family-owned boutique with a little bit of everything and it is all gorgeous! When they contacted me about featuring an item, I had the hardest time choosing just one item because I love so many, especially the cute dresses for women!

Ultimately I landed on this fabulous piece:

PinkBlush Floral Shirt Tall

This bell sleeve floral tunic is unbelievably comfortable and so feminine! I’m wearing a size small and it has plenty of room. I also love the length which covers my behind! Yay for long tunics!

PinkBlush Floral Side PinkBlush Floral Up Close

I’ve worn this dressed up to speak for a conference and dressed down on a normal weekday. It’s really comfortable enough to sleep in, but I won’t take it that far! PinkBlush has so many versatile pieces like this that will make you feel like a million bucks, but cost much, much less!

PinkBlush is all over social media with great styling ideas and features from real women just like me! I love to follow them on Instagram at @shoppinkblush and check out the hashtags #pinkblush and #shoppinkblush for inspiration.

Now for the fun: who wants to go shopping at the PinkBlush Boutique?! I’m giving away one $50 gift card to PinkBlush and you could win! Just enter below and tell your friends!

Valentine’s Day Style with SoloHope!

It’s time for another installation of my collaboration with Shannon from The Simple Moms! She is a fellow fashion lover, but she is a mom to four girls and, as you know, I’m a mom to three boys! We thought it would be fun to show you how we view style from two different perspectives – a girl mom and a boy mom. Be sure to check out her fabulous post today as well!

I received this jewelry to review. I was not compensated in any way for this post and all opinions are 100% my own.

Mom Stylin'

I love a good reason to get dressed up. And I really, really love red. Valentine’s Day is the best of both worlds. This year, I’m adding one more love to my Valentine’s Day style: fair trade jewelry!

View More: http://ashleystephen.pass.us/solohope2016

The Red Cheer set from SoloHope is THE perfect set to add a pop of red to your Valentine’s Day outfit. I love the jewelry and I love the story behind Solo Hope!

SoloHope’s founder, Emilee, fell in love with the people of Honduras on a missions trip at age 16 and, on her subsequent trips back to the country, learned of the need for many women to provide for their families as well as the lack of jobs for these women. Emilee dreamed up a jewelry design, partnered with these women as artisan designers, and started selling the jewelry here in the United States. And SoloHope just keeps growing! I love it all.

I changed up the length of the necklace by doubling it over and tying the ends with ribbon around my neck. If you want just a little pop of festive red, this is the way to go!

3 Ways to Wear Short Western Boots

It’s time for another installation of my collaboration with Shannon from The Simple Moms! She is a fellow fashion lover, but she is a mom to four girls and, as you know, I’m a mom to three boys! We thought it would be fun to show you how we view style from two different perspectives – a girl mom and a boy mom. Be sure to check out her fabulous post today as well!

Mom Stylin'

Shannon and I are back with our first style feature of 2016 and it is a fabulous one!

I stumbled across Tecovas Boots on Twitter a few weeks ago. Being a boot lover, I was immediately interested and it took me about two seconds flat to know I needed a pair!

Boots with logo

What makes Tecovas so unique?

Tecovas is the first western boot brand dedicated to selling top-quality, handmade boots at honest prices by only selling them directly to customers. I can tell you this: I have shopped high quality leather western boots in the past and the prices are way up there. Tecovas has brought those sky-high prices down with their approach!

IMG_2364

Tecovas also focused on three things in their extensive development process: comfortable fit, custom leather, and classic style. They want their boots to be the most comfortable boots you’ve ever worn and I think they nailed it!

There are two Tecovas styles for women. The Jamie is your traditional cowgirl height and the Penny is a shorter western boot. Both are available in Bourbon, Midnight, and Desert. I have been wearing my Midnight Penny boots every chance I get because they are so stylish and comfortable!

Here’s a few ideas of how to style your short western boots:

3 Ways to Wear Short Western Boots

Everyday Comfort

Tecovas Comfy Outfit

Yes, it is cold here in Nebraska. I am living in warm clothes, like this sweater tunic and skinny jeans. A comfy outfit is pulled together quickly with the Penny boots which work perfectly with tucked in skinny jeans or leggings!

Coffee Date or Girls’ Night Out

Tecovas Girls' Night

This is what I would wear if I was meeting someone for coffee at Stories Coffeehouse (my favorite in town) or going out for Mexican with my girlfriends! I’m late to these style trends, but I’m digging ponchos and big floppy hats now! Better late than never, right? Instead of tucking my skinny jeans in, I cuffed them above the short boots. This will be a great option for spring when the windchill isn’t below zero like it is at this moment!

Date Night

Tecovas Date Night

Date nights are my fave. I like to get dressed up for date night. Faux leather leggings are a super fun date night option! They pair like a dream with a sweater dress and the Penny boots! I can’t wait to try them with a few fun, flirty dresses for spring date nights.

You’re in love with Tecovas Boots now, aren’t you?! Shannon shared her styling for the Penny boots today, so check out her post!

We adore this new company and they want to bless one of you with a $100 gift card for your own pair of boots! Head on over to Instagram to find out how to enter!
