It’s about time for another What I Wore, don’t you think? Heat and humidity have been in full force here in Nebraska. The Hubby and I keep saying to each other, “Is it fall yet?” Sure, we enjoy swimming in this weather…but that’s about it. Thanks to air conditioning, I’ve been able to wear some hoodies, but only sporadically. Who else is ready for cooler weather?

While we all wait for the change of seasons, here’s what I’ve been wearing this past week…

What I Wore 7-29 KC

I’ve been looking for an all-white hat for many months now, so when I spotted this beauty – the last one in my size – at Scheels, it had to be mine. It’s already had plenty of wear this week because it goes with everything!

What I Wore 7-29 VB

Late Wednesday afternoon, I received a text from a friend who had free tickets to the FIVB World Grand Prix for women’s volleyball. I’m a huge volleyball fan and three former Huskers were playing for the team, so I scrambled to ok it with The Hubby and find a friend to go with me. We made it just in time for the match and watched Team USA destroy their competition. And we both showed up with the same hoodie from Evy’s Tree. We’re cool like that.

What I Wore 7-29 BLB

I know I said the only thing we like to do in this heat is swim, but we do get outside for other things like attending the best zoo in the whole world. Our zoo is C-R-A-Z-Y in the summer, so we went as soon as they opened to beat the crowds and the heat. In the shade, we found the cutest little elephant statue. Elephants are my favorite and the real thing will be returning to our zoo next year – I CAN’T WAIT. This pineapple tank from WalMart makes me happy about summer and I promise I am wearing shorts. You just can’t see them behind my amazing Brynnda from Better Life Bags, the perfect purse that holds a lot but isn’t huge. And Saltwater Sandals are the best summer sandal. This tan color is perfection because they match everything, but they come in every color of the rainbow.

What I Wore 7-29 Kimono

I now own my first kimono (from Cents of Style) and it is just as lovely as I thought it would be. This was my church outfit and I didn’t want to change out of it because COMFY. Props to The Hubby for going with my “let’s take a picture in front of Target” idea. He’s a keeper. Also, if I’m not carrying the Brynnda bag, I definitely have my Mamuye tote from fashionABLE in hand! The most lovely, versatile leather bag ever.

What I Wore 7-29 Ashley
This outfit is my “PLEASE HURRY UP FALL” outfit. Really I’m wearing a tank and shorts just like every other day, but threw on this new Ashley hoodie from Evy’s Tree because I was feeling rebellious. Take that, summer.

What I Wore 7-29 Reece

It rained yesterday morning and we were inside most of the day, so I felt completely justified in putting on jeans and a gorgeous lightweight hoodie. I didn’t really know how much I liked hot pink until this hoodie came along. My Maurice’s jeans are still the best ever and I’m living in these Bzees shoes because they are amazingly comfortable.

I’m planning out some fashion posts for the fall and wondered what you’d like to see! Let me know in the comments if you have questions or need ideas + inspiration!

How are you feeling about summer – love it or leave it?

Fourth of July Outfits!

Who’s ready for the Fourth of July weekend?!

I’m totally ready – time with family, a day at the lake, celebrating our country, the food – it’s all good. I also love the fun Fourth of July outfit options. Red, white, and blue can be mixed together in so many different ways. Whether your holiday celebrations are at the lake, a backyard party, or anywhere else, I have some ideas for how to style your patriotic colors!

4th of July Outfit 1

A navy striped dress is a great staple to have in your summer closet and you’ve already got the blue and white covered for your Fourth of July outfit! Add some red beads and white slip-ons like these from Bzees to keep this classy outfit both dressy and comfy. I’m always a big fan of completing a summer outfit with a fedora.

4th of July Outfit 2

This is my lake Fourth of July outfit – a great patriotic tank, neutral shorts, comfy shoes and simple accessories. Lake days are all about being able to move and be comfortable not matter how hot it may be. We’ve been going to the same lake every Fourth of July since I can remember and this type of outfit has never failed me – why change now?! Did you notice the shape of the flag? So fun.

4th of July Outfit 3

If I was spending the Fourth of July at a backyard party or restaurant with friends, this would be my outfit of choice. I love the long, bold graphic tank paired with classy white capris and the best wedges ever. I really should wear white pants more, but hello, mother of three boys! Actually, I’m the one who usually spills on them…

4th of July Outfit 4

One of my favorite parts of the Fourth of July is sitting around the campfire, making s’mores, singing, laughing and talking with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. By that time of day, we’ve changed into jeans and hoodies, partially because it has cooled off, but mostly to ward off those Minnesota mosquitoes! This year, I’m adding these amazing Mitscoots “The Mark” socks for a little extra USA flair! It’s too late to get your own pair in time for this holiday, but you’ll want to order them now anyways because they are on sale for just $10 AND you can get an extra 20% off your order with the code HWTB20 at checkout!

How do you wear your red, white, and blue? Which of these Fourth of July outfits fits your style and plans for the holiday?

Summer is for S’mores!

I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for OshKosh B’Gosh. I received an OshKosh B’Gosh gift card to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Can I be honest with you? I’ve kind of always dreaded the arrival of summer. There have been parts of summer I’ve enjoyed – swimming, family vacations, no school – but I just wasn’t crazy about the heat and humidity and being out in it at all.

All of that has been changing this year. Maybe it’s me, but I think it has to do more with my kids. They’re growing up and we’re able to take off on adventures as a family more easily. We’ve been playing outside, exploring our city, staying up later, and I’m starting to think summer can be quite glorious.

OshKosh Happy Brothers
I think the most wonderful of all are the summer nights.
We’ve enjoyed have family play dates with friends in the evening so we can share the joy that is…

OshKosh J Fire Pit

We are blessed to have a beautiful fire pit and seating area in our backyard, the perfect location for the perfect yummy summer activity for a play date or sleepover!

OshKosh J Fire Pit 2
The combination of a warm fire, gooey treats, and kids is magical.

OshKosh FireOshKosh Brothers Roasting

It’s fun to have variety available when we make s’mores with guests! We mix it up with different chocolates – dark chocolate is my favorite, Big J loves peanut butter cups, and I’ll let you take a guess at the top choice of Little J…

OshKosh Hersheys

With all of the fun chocolate options, every kid can have a custom treat they will enjoy! We somehow ended up with one kiddo who just wants the roasted marshmallow by itself and one who wants all the parts of a s’more, but wants to eat them separately. I just don’t understand.

OshKosh Eating
S’mores and summer fun go hand-in-hand at our house and we love them both even more when we get to share them with friends!

We are also totally loving the new summer play clothes the boys picked out at our local OshKosh B’Gosh store this past week!

OshKosh Surf

I’ve always thought of overalls and denim when OshKosh B’Gosh was mentioned, but they are quickly becoming my go-to store for bright, fun summer looks for my boys. The boys were actually EXCITED to be shopping in the OshKosh B’Gosh store and that is a BIG DEAL!

OshKosh j smile

With sizes 0-12, we were able to shop for all three boys in one store and we had piles of tops and shorts they all loved. The deals at OshKosh B’Gosh were so great that we were able to get everything they wanted – ten tops and four pairs of shorts – for under $100!

OshKosh Shark Face

I can’t get the boys to wear anything excet their new OshKosh B’Gosh clothes and that’s fine with me! I love their bright colors, hand-drawn original designs, and great quality.

OshKosh Shirts

I think these outfits match their personalities quite well, don’t you?! And Little J’s dino shirt (top right) glows in the dark, which is so perfect for an evening play date!

OshKosh Whole Shark

I should probably mention that if you’re going to do s’mores for a play date, please allow some “burning off all that sugar” time. They’ll need it. Trust me.

See what I mean?!

I love my boys. I love spending summer with them. And I know you will love the new summer styles from OshKosh B’Gosh as much as we do, especially with this great discount through July 13th!

Find your local OshKosh B’Gosh store here, grab your kids, and enjoy finding them some fun new summer clothes together with 25% off your purchase of $30 or more! You can also use this deal online with the code SUMMER25 at checkout.

You can join in on the #HelloSummerFun action and be inspired with OshKosh B’Gosh on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

Your turn: talk to me about your favorite s’mores combination! We are always looking for new ideas!

Wednesdays are for What I Wore! As a mom of boys, it’s fun for me to share my girlie side here each week talking fashion!

IMG_7371 3

Last week was the funeral for a fallen police officer in our community. It is such an incredibly sad situation, but I was so moved by how our community came together to honor her. This is one of the memorial shirts to benefit her family. I wore it down to police headquarters with the boys to see the memorial placed there by people from all over the state.

Anybody else dealing with rollercoaster weather in your area? We’ve had warm days and cool days, but much more of the latter, so coffee + my Evy’s Tree hoodies have been a lifesaver. The coral Diana is the perfect summer wrap – lightweight, dreamy soft, versatile. I adore it.

Apparently I decided to match our lunch location with my Evy’s Tree Brilla! The hoodie was accompanied by my fave gray tee and the best jeans ever from Maurice’s. I want to wear these jeans every single day.

Remember how I said I adore the Evy’s Tree Diana? Here it is again! I think I wore it every day this past weekend. It was the perfect jacket for our anniversary date night, paired with a fun burgundy top + white capris from Target, gold jewelry from Charming Charlie’s, my fashionABLE Mayume tote, and these amazing Clarks wedges!

If you need me this summer, I’ll be at the tennis courts at least four hours a week for the kids’ lessons! There are no trees around the courts, so it’s either windy + chilly (like it was yesterday) or super duper hot! Yesterday was definitely hoodie weather, so obviously I grabbed my Evy’s Tree Ashley hoodie with my fave Old Navy tank + GAP shorts. I love tennis so much and being in the sun is a major bonus! Summer, we’re so glad you’re here!

The Capsule Wardrobe Break-Up: It’s Not You, It’s Me

Last fall, I dove head first into planning and using a capsule wardrobe. It had been something I wanted to try for a LONG time and I was so excited to finally execute my plan! I purged, I planned, I purchased intentionally, and I spent three months wearing only the 40 items in my closet. I even wrote a post called “Why I Need a Capsule Wardrobe.”

After three months, I decided the capsule wardrobe and I were just not meant for each other. So we broke up.

The Capsule Wardrobe Break-Up

To be perfectly clear: I still love the capsule wardrobe concept and I think every woman should try it at least once. But between my ENFP personality (ooh, shiny things!) and my love for trying new things in fashion, I couldn’t stick to just my 40-item capsule after those three months.

So what didn’t work?

The capsule wardrobe made me feel like I was on a diet. The Hubby and I don’t do diets well. We like to eat healthy 90% of the time, but we don’t like being told what we can and can’t eat by some plan. This is how I ended up feeling during my capsule trial period – restricted and wanting things I “couldn’t” have.

Even though I chose to not to stick with this way of dressing, the capsule wardrobe process WAS a good experience for me. I took the time to intentionally look at the clothes in my closet, eliminated the pieces I wasn’t wearing, and thought of new ways to wear the pieces I already love. I also found myself buying less on impulse which is always a good thing!

Instead of sticking to a strict capsule wardrobe, I’m just going through my wardrobe with a cutthroat mindset each season. And as far as buying, I’m shopping for better-made versions of the essentials and going with fair-trade and ethical fashion companies whenever possible.

This post is about me breaking up with my capsule wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it. You may love it. It was freeing at first to have a smaller set of pieces to choose from when getting dressed each morning. And some people thrive in this way…just not me! I’m leaving up my capsule wardrobe posts because I still believe in the resources and process. Who knows – I may give it another go for a different season at some point!

I still believe I needed a capsule wardrobe for that season as I originally posted. It helped me get creative and clarify my style. I found a few “uniforms” I love to stick to – more on that soon! It was a great exercise in discipline and intentionality, both of which I could use a lot more of in my life!

My Dear Capsule Wardrobe,

It was good while it lasted. You helped me grow, but I had to move on. I just couldn’t be me when we were together. I know someone else will love you much better than I ever could. It’s not you. It’s all me. Thanks for the memories.

All my best,

Have you tried a capsule wardrobe? How did it work for you?

Spring has sprung here in Nebraska and with it has come sunshine..and rain. LOTS of rain. I love rain, don’t get me wrong. Rainy days are the best for cuddling up with a great book and warm coffee. But I’m starting to thinking another flood is coming because it has rained every day for as long as I can remember. Well, maybe just a week, but still…

The days may be gloomy, but I’m trying to keep things fun and bright with my wardrobe! Here’s what I wore this week…

What are you wearing this spring? Any new trends I should try?

It’s a Henkaa Mother’s Day Giveaway!

I was given this dress as part of Henkaa Mother’s Day celebration! I was not compensated in any other way for this post, and all opinions are 100% my own!

I’ve had my eyes on a Henkaa dress for quite a while. Maybe obsessing a little bit.

A Henkaa dress is the perfect item for any woman to have in her capsule wardrobe because it can be worn so many ways. And a Henkaa dress is the perfect investment for a mom because it can be worn before, during, and after pregnancy – not many clothes in our closet can do that, right ladies?! I wish I had a Henkaa dress when I was having babies!

My first Henkaa dress, the Iris Midi, arrived last week and I’ve had so much fun styling it! The fun thing about the Iris is that is has SLEEVES! Yes, sleeves, but it can also be styled as a sleeveless or strapless dress, too! Talk about versatile!

Henkaa Iris Midi Dress

The style on the left was for a date night with The Hubby! The fabric of the Iris is so luxurious – perfect for getting fancy and throwing on some heels for a night out! In that style, the halter top was made by tying the sleeves behind the neck.

For the style on the right, I went a little more casual with some of my favorite fair trade accessories from (affiliate link) The Root Collective and Work of Worth! This would be a great look for brunch or a baby shower. I love that the sleeves make this dress a piece I can keep in my closet year-round!

I can’t wait to try the Iris in many more styles! Here are a few of the 15 ways it can be worn:

Henkaa has tons of tutorials and inspiration from real women to help you make the most out of your convertible dress. The tutorials helped me figure out how to wear new styles in not time at all!

Did you know Henkaa also has a versatile bag in their line-up? The monogram multi-way bag is perfect as a diaper bag, daily carry-all or travel companion and can be worn as a handbag, cross-body bag, shoulder bag or backpack! Detachable straps and TONS of compartments on both the inside and outside make this a bag you will take with your every day to carry whatever you need – diapers, books, gym necessities, and more!

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Henkaa and I are teaming up to give one Iris convertible dress + one monogram multi-way bag to one of you beautiful ladies! I’M SO EXCITED!!!

Henkaa Mother's Day Giveaway

To enter this marvelous Mother’s Day giveaway, tell me which color Iris dress you would pick and where you would wear it to celebrate Mother’s Day – fancy brunch, moms’ night out with girlfriends, a day of shopping without kids, or something else fun!

This giveaway ends Sunday, May 10th at 8PM CST. One random winner will be chosen and announced Monday, May 11th! Only open to those with a US shipping address. Must be 18 or older to win. One entry per household please.

Happy Mother’s Day!

It’s still Wednesday as I’m posting this, so I’m getting in on the What I Wore Wednesday action!

Just a few pics of me this week and a couple bonuses…

FullSizeRender 6

We had the loveliest spring day last week and I was all over it was a new sleeveless tunic from Zulily and my fabulous new Sseko Designs sandals! {Get 10% off your own pair of Sseko sandals with the code homewiththeboys} I have a feeling this outfit will get LOTS of wear this spring. The lovely jewelry is from 107 Market Street!

Easter 2015 FamilyIMG_6481

I caught a glimpse of a cute maxi dress from Old Navy online this week and then I saw it was on MAJOR sale that day only, so it became my Easter dress! It was a little chilly Easter morning, so I threw on a shrug and paired it with my Saltwater Sandals – delightful and comfortable! Don’t my guys look devastatingly handsome?! And that’s my mom looking super springy in her yellow cardigan! It was so great to have her + my dad here for Easter!

The sunny spring weather left us this week and rainy weather moved in, so I’ve been living in comfy clothes.  That means I have worn Evy’s Tree every day this week. No shame. The Hubby and I were giving our “we need a vacation” faces on Monday. Yes, we do. On Tuesday, I was excited to get this new book in the mail because I love everything Jon Acuff writes. And my hoodie matched the cover – how fun!

Now for some little man style:

Big J put this church outfit together himself and he was very proud of it! He has never chosen to wear a tie before – I’m not even sure where he found this one – but I like his style!

Then there’s this guy. Trying to start a new fashion trend: boots as pants. I think it will really catch on this spring.

I can’t top that last pic. Good night.

What I Wore: Birthday Edition!

That’s right! It’s my birthday! Today! 34 and better than ever!

My guys have all kinds of fun planned for me and I got a free birthday drink at my favorite coffee place, so it’s a great day! Because it’s my birthday, I decided to wear a new shirt that combines three of my favorite things: fair trade, elephants, and the color green! This button-down top is from Symbology Clothing and those darling little dots are actually little elephants! Did I mention it’s GREEN?! I was head-over-heels immediately.

This was the day before my birthday when I was feeling a little blah. Instead of wallowing, I threw on a green tee {yes, green again}, a comfy cardigan, and my favorite scarf from fashionABLE, and embraced the gloomy, rainy day while counting my blessings! fashionABLE just released the ABLE scarf in two more amazing colors and you can get 10% off your order when you click HERE!

And since this is the birthday edition, I had to share my lovely new outfit from my in-laws for my birthday! They gave me this gorgeous Steve Madden sweater (the softest fabric ever) and a matching scarf! Aren’t they beautiful?! These pieces are just perfect for spring, especially paired with my cotton v-neck Everlane tee, white jeans, and The Root Collective flats!

The rest of the week was pretty casual…

The boys and I went to watch NCAA tournament teams practice Thursday afternoon and it was FREE! So much fun! The weather was nice enough that we didn’t need coats, but there was still a chill in the air, so I wore my Evy’s Tree Lizzy and everyone thought I was there to cheer for Oklahoma State!

I have fallen in love with a pair of leggings. Seriously. I found these Under Armour Ultimate Leggings on clearance at the outlet store and I never want to take them off. I wore them all day Sunday, including on my walk with Double J. It was such a sweet one-on-one time with him!

This week was the one year anniversary of my friend Breena’s son going to be with Jesus. In his honor, Breena started Garment Collective, an ethically sourced, redemptively made women’s clothing line with a Zero Slavery standard. I wore my Redemption For All tee this week in Zekey’s memory along with my Evy’s Tree Ashley hoodie. Keep an eye on Garment Collective as they move forward – I know you will love everything they do!

And now I’m off for more birthday celebrating, including dinner with The Hubby and a MASSAGE! See you later, friends!

I know it’s not Wednesday, but I’m going with a What I Wore post anyway! You’re ok with that, right? Good.

Here’s a look back at what I wore the last couple weeks…

My friend Marie and I showed up to help at Awana wearing our matching Evy’s Tree Brilla hoodies! So fun! I’m wearing mine with the Stitch Fix jeans I adore and new B.O.C. clogs that are SUPER comfy!

IMG_5859 2

You already saw this outfit in my post about The Root Collective’s new spring line, but here it is again! Super simple gray sweater dress + jeggings dressed up with fair trade accessories from Noonday, 107 Market Street, and The Root Collective!

I mixed it up for church with some lace + camo + sparkle! This Layla’s Shop top went perfectly with the camo skinnies I scored on clearance at Target! I added wild copper Tieks and a Mata Traders necklace for some shine.

These spring mornings are nice, but a little chilly, so I wore my Evy’s Tree Diana wrap as a jacket when we went for Double J’s well-child check. It was just the right thing to keep me warm + stylish! This royal purple Piko top from Layla’s Shop is so fun with leggings + The Root Collective flats! The necklace from Beautiful & Beloved is one of my all-time favorites – goes with EVERYTHING.

How about a little workout gear? I’m in love with this tee, a collaboration between Revelation Wellness + Naptime Diaries! Life has left me pretty weary lately, but I’m trying to find boldness in my soul that can only come from faith + Jesus. This shirt is a great reminder for me.

Irishman race attire – what a fun day! My shirt is from Janji, a company that makes running clothes + gives back through your purchases! This tee helps provide one year of clean water for one person in Kenya!

And, of course, my St. Patrick’s Day outfit! Still LOVING my Target shamrock shirt SO MUCH! And Double J’s shirt is my fave. He picks it to wear all the time.

Spring is making an appearance here and I’m loving the chance to wear fun flats, lighter tops, and dresses! What are your favorite spring clothes?
