I feel so blessed to be at home with and for our family at this stage in my life. I know this isn’t possible – or desirable – for everyone and I pray that I don’t take a moment of it for granted.
One of the things I really enjoy doing with my time at home is making homemade foods for my family. I do NOT make everything from scratch, but if it can save us some money and make something a little healthier for us, I like to give it a try!
I think time is very valuable as well, so I don’t make things from scratch that will take up too much precious time with my family. And I like to choose things I enjoy making – for obvious reasons!
I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite foods that we make at home now instead of buying from the store! These are all recipes I make on a regular basis – they are tried and true!
One side note: Whenever I make a bread machine recipe, I mix the dough in the machine on the dough setting and then bake the dough in the oven. I like the shape of the loaf better than when it is baked in the machine! Just personal preference!

What foods do you enjoy making from scratch?
I’m linking up to Tasty Tuesday today! Check out all the yummy recipes posted over there!
One of my goals this year was to learn to bake a good loaf of bread. I haven’t done much work on that yet though. Now that fall is approaching I hope to be more in the baking mood. I’ve seen people mention using a bread machine for mixing the dough. Is this to take out the kneading step? I’ve got a Kitchen Aid mixer so I don’t have to do any kneading but I’ve always wondered if the bread machine would make it even easier.
Also, love how you say you’re home with and FOR your family! Good reminder.
It does take the kneading work out for you and aids the rising process! I’ve never tried it with my Kitchen Aid – maybe I should do that!
Can you can blender salsa??
That’s a great question, Deann! I’ve never canned anything, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don’t see why not!
These look terrific! I love to bake my own bread, as well. 🙂 Feel free to come over and linkup with “Try a New Recipe Tuesday.” I’d love to have you join us.
I buy a big block of mozarella cheese – or use on ethat comes in my CSA box and cut it into cheese sticks. Love making my own salad dressing ( olive oil, basalmic vinegar and dijon mustard) so easy, cheap and delish!
Blessings

I should try dressing! That does sound VERY easy!
I just got a bread machine, and my first few loaves haven’t been that great. Gonna try these recipes and see what I can do! I really want to bake our own sandwich bread each week.
You’ll never go back. Never ever. The Hubby says it’s a blessing and a curse – so good you just want to eat it all 🙂
I regularly make granola bars. I think they were on Allrecipes and called Playgroup granola bars (if you want to try). Maybe not super healthy, but much better than high fructose corn syrup.
I’m going to dive into the granola bar making next week – I’ll have to look those up!
Yum! We make homemade salsa and I just did taco seasoning a couple weeks ago! I can’t wait to try the bread recipes, thanks!
