It’s Five-Minute Friday with lovely Lisa-Jo!
Set a timer and just write. Don’t worry about making it just right or not.
For me? An exercise in letting go and letting words flow. Five minutes only. {yes, I do set a timer and it quacks like a duck at 5 minutes, which totally makes me smile}
Today’s prompt: Brave.
And go…
Our days already seem so busy and our oldest child only just turned seven a few weeks ago. The evenings fill up fast with church and taekwondo and other good activities, but the “good” doesn’t stop it all from being a little overwhelming.
And compared to most families, we’re really not involved in that many things. Sports and dance and youth group and homework and…they all vie for the attention and time of our family members until we don’t know where our time to even breathe went.
In our society, filling our schedules has become the norm. But choosing our families is really the brave thing to do. We must bravely FIGHT for our families or they will be a place of strength and refuge and love and nurture no more.
Brave parents, won’t you join me in fighting for the family? For conversation, for movie nights, for bedtime stories and morning devotions? It doesn’t mean saying no to everything else, but rather saying a brave YES to God and the ones with whom you are blessed to share a home.
How will you BRAVELY choose your family this weekend?
Stop.
And now I’m off to link up this post with the fabulous Five Minute Friday community! You MUST take the time to read the words of these BRAVE writers!

ohhhh love this perspective and take on the prompt. YES! Sometimes being brave is saying no to things and starting off our sentences with: In our family we……
Great post!!!
Our families are so worth fighting for. I pray God gives us all the strength and bravery to stand up and fight.
won’t you join me in fighting for the family? – YES YES YES! adore you!!
I am with you sister…brave to be different. Today’s culture focuses more on individual needs and wants vs. The family. There us hope when we follow His Word, love deeply, and simplify things more. Quality time spent with our family will make memories and build character for all of us.
Yes. Yes. Yes! Fighting for time with our kids is most definitely brave!
Praying for your family.
Amen! Family = foundation from which to flourish. Keep fighting, dear ones.
Hello, my lovely lady!
I love your post like I love your heart. This is a thing I am waking up to, that I want this more than I want a lot of things, and I starting to choose to fight for it. Thanks for the encouragement that the battle is worth it and I’m not alone!! Miss you!
Love this. It does take bravery to stand for protecting our family time doesn’t it?
A very encouraging post. Thank you for sharing it.
I told my husband recently that I was really worn down from saying no all the time. No, we don’t let our kids watch that. No, son, we don’t say words like that. No, we’re not going to stay up later tonight. Don’t get out of your bed. No, we’re not playing soccer, she chose tball instead. Don’t hit people with sticks. No, don’t ask again, I’ve already given you answer. It’s made me weary lately, but I so appreciate your encouragement that choosing what is best for our families is brave.
