Over the past few months, I’ve been working through the book of James during my morning quiet time along with the Good Morning Girls and some local friends. I haven’t been so good about checking in with them daily as I was at the beginning, but I have stuck with the reading every day and I have been so blessed. It has really developed a wonderful habit for me and a hunger for more time in His Word.

I kept a journal through this journey as well using the SOAP method, which you can find explained here. I didn’t think I would like it, but now I want to continue it with every reading I do! It really helps me focus and study the verses, not just read them to get them done.

We will wrap up James this Friday, so I thought I would share my top ten favorite verses from James as part of Amanda’s link-up today…

Top Ten Favorite Verses in James

1. James 1:2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,  because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

2. James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

3. James 1:19-20

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,  because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

4. James 1:27

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

5. James 2:26

As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

6. James 3:17

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

7. James 4:7

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8. James 4:13-15

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

9. James 5:13

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

10. James 5:19-20

My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
