It may be the one thing I struggle with the most, although it takes on many forms.
Laziness is an ugly thing and it is hard to shake.
It is such a selfish and self-centered sin. I know that and I see its effects over and over again.
And it still keeps coming back.
I know the only way to combat laziness is with and through Jesus. And His Word is just the kick in the pants I need.
Seriously, the Bible has some pretty harsh things to say about laziness and it is one big reality check for this lady! I plan to write these verses out and put them in prominent places {including on my computer where I tend to waste time} to remind me of what He says.
I am the manager of our home. I CANNOT be lazy or everyone in the family suffers.
I’m giving this struggle over to Him once again and memorizing these…
Ten Bible Verses to Fight Laziness
You lazy fool, look at an ant.
Watch it closely; let it teach you a thing or two.
Nobody has to tell it what to do.
All summer it stores up food;
at harvest it stockpiles provisions.
So how long are you going to laze around doing nothing?
How long before you get out of bed?
A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there,
sit back, take it easy—do you know what comes next?
Just this: You can look forward to a dirt-poor life,
poverty your permanent houseguest! ~Proverbs 6:6-11 (The Message)
Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave. ~Proverbs 12:24 (NLT)
A lazy person is as bad as someone who destroys things. ~Proverbs 18:9 (NLT)
She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. ~Proverbs 31:27 (NLT)
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. ~Romans 12:11 (NLT)
A shiftless man lives in a tumbledown shack; A lazy woman ends up with a leaky roof. ~Ecclesiastes 10:18 (The Message)
Despite their desires, the lazy will come to ruin, for their hands refuse to work. ~Proverbs 21:25 (NLT)
A lazy life is an empty life, but “early to rise” gets the job done. ~Proverbs 12:27 (The Message)
Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest. ~Proverbs 20:4 (NLT)
Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper. ~Proverbs 13:4 (NLT)

Great truths this morning! Thank you for sharing!!
The Proverbs 31 verse about working always strikes me. As does Proverbs 18:9 and Romans 12:11. Thank you, thank you for sharing this inspiration.

This is so good for me right now – not only am I struggling with my normal laziness, it’s so hot outside that my body just doesn’t want to do anything! Thanks for sharing these verses!
Great verses, Friend! I definitely have my lazy days. I need to visit this post on laundry days especially!

Bless you for this post! I have been looking for biblical encouragement to pull me out of my lazy sleep! Thank you for these!
I often feel like I am being lazy, but then I realize that I actually do get a lot done and I sometimes have to allow myself to rest. But other times, I KNOW I am just being lazy and it is something that I really have to struggle against. Thanks for the encouraging words and the kick in the tail to get it going!
Fantastic post! I have definitely noticed that I set the work ethic for the day around our home. On the days I take it slow, the kids do as well. The days I plow forward with a good attitude, the kids are awesome. Thank you for the reminder!
How wonderful is this post!
Thanks for this post! God bless!
Thank you so much for this post! I found your blog through a Google search for verses about laziness. I will be sharing these verses with one of my children who is really struggling in this area. The Word of God is so powerful and I pray that memorizing what God says about this will be the first step toward her mind being renewed. So glad that my search led me to find your blog too!
Oh Marisha, I love how God works like that! I will be praying those verses take firm root in her heart! Nice to meet you!
Thank you for these verses and the thoughts along with them. I have been trying to deal with my kids laziness. & it was recently pointed out to me that they were merely mirroring what they see at home. So with Gods help I will be fighting this in myself from today onwards
I’ve been convicted of the same thing in my own life, so I know how you feel Catherine! Praying these words will resonate in your heart and spur you to change!
oh this is something I struggle with I ask that the lord will help me because every area of my life suffers from this
So I hate laziness. Like when my kids won’t pick up their clothes or finish their chores. They’re little so they are learning to be less lazy. But it’s so not far to call mom tiredness…exhaustion…burnout…being lazy. Even procrastination is not necessarily laziness…mine has always been caused by fear and uncertainty. We need to help other moms who struggle like this without shaming them with the label of lazy. I can be busy all day and still unproductive…or…I can take some me time…write a list…listen to uplifting music…pray….and get much more done…and a slower pace. Lazy is such a truly terrible thing…make sure that that is what you are being when you call yourself this…because being human and a mom is ok. Laziness is not.
Of course, Leah! I understand what you are saying and would never ever label any of the things you’ve mentioned as laziness! This is not meant to shame anyone, but it has helped me when I have been truly lazy, so I chose to share it! And maybe they would be helpful to another mom to pray over herself or her children! I hope you hear my heart in this! Thanks for your comment!
thank you for this 🙂
