I can’t remember the last time our family laughed so hard reading a book.
How to Get a Job…by Me, the Boss is one of the latest books by the author of the The Jesus Storybook Bible, Sally Lloyd-Jones. It came just in time to take on our road trip late last month!
A little more about the book…
Our know-it-all narrator from the New York Times best-selling How to Be a Baby is back with the third book in the series.
This time she knows all about how to get a job, and she walks readers through the whole process: from deciding what you want to be all the way to acing the interview (tip: don’t bring your gerbils.)
This book is sure to be a hit with kids who love to play pretend and dream about what they’re going to be when they grow up.
I read this aloud to the kids while we were driving. At times, I couldn’t read the next line because I was laughing so hard! The hubby was laughing, my parents were laughing, and the boys couldn’t stop laughing!
The book talks about how to be a teacher, a doctor and a parent – all things close to our hearts, which made it even more special! There are some other crazy professions thrown in for fun, too!
This book would also be a GREAT gift for a graduate or someone just entering the workforce. Who can I give one to next? Hmmm….
I already adored Sally Lloyd-Jones. Now I flat out love her. We all need to laugh more.

My first job was as a babysitter for a woman’s prayer group. I got to play with the little kids while their mommy’s spent time in prayer together. I had a lot of fun and even felt a little bad for getting paid.
My first job was as a paper girl, delivering newspapers and magazines morning and evening.
mt 1st job was washing dishes at our local bar & grill
My first job was as a candy striper in a nursing home, I absolutely loved bringing papers, books and magazines to the elderly and talking to them!
My first job was at Jack in the Box….I only lasted there for a little over a month. But I was so excited to get a pay check all of my own. I spent the whole $150.00 in less than 20min at a local clothing store!
My first job was babysitting for our church on Wednesday nights. I loved it. I loved the babies, I loved the toddlers, I loved them all! I babysat for years after that during summers, even after graduating college until I landed my first “real” job. : )
I’d love to win a copy! Books that make me laugh out loud are my absolute favorites! I love reading Hank the Cowdog out loud because we all end up cracking up! : )
This sounds like my kind of book! I’d love a copy!
My first job was at an animal hospital. I was in high school and helped with whatever they needed me to do. Whether it was cleaning kennels or holding animals for their vaccines, I did it! The last summer I worked there, I had one daily task: run to the store after lunch (after I clocked back in) and get a 1 lb. bag of twizzlers. By the end of the day, the bag would be gone. I don’t even remember who paid for the twizzlers; all I know is they never let me pay. Also, on nights the doctor had to stay late, he would walk across the street to the liquor store and buy drinks for everyone – including me! I was a good girl and declined the drink, but every time, there was one for me.
Sounds like a great book!! 🙂 Love a book that is packed with humor! 🙂 My first job was a babysitter for my neighbor’s 3 kids. I wrestled with her because I just couldn’t accept money. But she wouldn’t let me babysit unless she paid me…I made really good money that summer. But most importantly, I learned A LOT of important homemaking skills from her 🙂
wow sounds very interesting! would love to read that book.
well during my first job interview i was really nervous… i already practiced what i would say but then on the actual event the words started to fade from my memory and i was mental blocked hahaha very shameful thoughj
This book sounds super cute! My first real job, was as a cashier at Shopko. I actually really enjoyed chatting with all the customers and working on game days when the store was empty!
My first job was a bus boy at my neighbor’s restaurant. I felt so honored that he would ask me to work one day a week my freshman year of high school. I was on top of the world – hobnobbing with the high school and college kids. I love people, so working here was a great experience for a first job. I worked hard at connecting with people, so when I wasn’t bussing a table I would run orders or help the servers with other portions of their job. One night I was over zealous and took our dessert tray display out to a table of people. They ordered dessert and was happy to bring my report back to the server. On the way back to our kitchen area I saw the boss and was excited about telling him how I’d used our suggestive sales technique to get them to order pie, and I inadvertently failed to notice that someone spilled liquid on the floor. I hurried right through the liquid and slipped, bumping into my boss, knocking a manager down to the floor, and taking myself down. Needless to say, I found myself in a mess of pie and glass shards. My boss and manager were very gracious, but it was awhile before I offered to carry that dessert tray around.
This sounds like a great book. And I definitely want to get it for my daughter when she graduates next year.
My very first job was working part-time in a flower shop. Being a creative person, I enjoyed it. Funniest story I have is when my boss told me to take extra care in making a corasage. It was for a very special person, she said. Yeah, it turned out to be for me. My boyfriend had ordered it. 🙂
thanks for sharing.

My first job was taking a local baker, Aldo Leone, out on the harbor in my 13 foot Boston Whaler on Block Island. He paid me a percentage of what he made plus threw in a few muffins or donuts each day. I earned enough money during two summers to pay for a trip to Europe with my high school choir!
