They are born. They sleep, eat and poop. Sorry, but that’s all they do for a while, right?!
And then you blink, and they are reading or saying things like “God made me special” and you realize they are starting to understand bigger things…
Wow. Life as a parent just blows my mind sometimes.
A huge responsibility and an even bigger blessing.
I am so grateful for companies like Tommy Nelson that provide resources to share Jesus with our children along this crazy parenting path.
This month, I have two beautiful products to share with you that are helping us help our kiddos along the way to understanding these bigger things…
First up, Max Lucado’s You Are Special and 3 Other Stories: A Children’s Treasury Box Set.
This set of four of Max Lucado’s best-selling children’s books are in a cute (and convenient) little carrying case and includes:
–You are Special (based on the popular DVD)
–The Tallest of Smalls
–Hermie the Common Caterpillar
-Just in Case You Ever Wondered
I shared this set with Little J (the set is ideal for children 3-6) and he wanted to read all four in the first sitting! We made it through three – the Hermie one is on the longer side – and he was totally enthralled.
The books share a common theme: God loves each of us and made us each very special. It can be hard to tell if things are sinking in with a 2 1/2 year old, but the next night when the hubby sat down to read the books with him, Little J told him “God made me!” and was so proud! Plus, he carried the little box of books around for the next few days – ALL. THE. TIME.
This would be such a wonderful gift – for a young child, an expecting family, or a family celebrating a new adoption! And it’s only $14.99 for $50 worth of books! I like that math!

The other book we had the pleasure of experiencing this month is The Beginning Reader’s Bible.
What a blessing.
It’s no secret that I love Bibles, and that goes for children’s Bibles as well.
I was drawn to this one by the title, since Big J has recently grown by leaps and bounds in his reading.
I was very surprised – and thrilled – to see actual Scripture throughout this Bible! I love reading story Bibles and devotionals with the boys, but reading the exact Scripture verses has great power. The Beginning Readers Bible is NOT the entire Bible, but is instead selected stories, told in verses (ICB translation), but abridged.
For example, the story of Daniel and the lions is told by actual verses from Daniel, but not all of them. Just enough to tell the story and bring it to life, but not overwhelm the beginning reader.
I have to tell you, hearing Big J read these verses was powerful. And I could tell he was really processing it as he read too! What a wonderful moment as a parent!
On top of everything else, this Bible is beautifully illustrated to bring younger children into the story as well.
As a caution, The Beginning Reader’s Bible does contain biblical names and larger words that might be difficult or frustrating for an actual beginning reader, but there are boxes in each story with shorter verses, prayers and activities to go with the main story. These were a great place for Big J to start without feeling overwhelmed by the rest.
Wow – enough of me talking! Let’s get on to the giveaway, right?!

I am a Tommy Mommy and received a copy of each book to review from Tommy Nelson. I did not receive any other form of compensation for this post and all opinions are 100% my own!
I would love to win Max Lucado’s You Are Special and 3 Other Stories: A Children’s Treasury Box Set for my son & daughter. What I do to make my children feel special and loved is by spending quality time with them. I give them lots of hugs and kisses all day long and constantly tell them how much I love them.

I really like the Bible because we have a few Children’s Bibles already, BUT they don’t use real Scripture. That would be amazing.
