I took a little “What I Wore” break over the summer because HOT. SWEATY. GROSS. I don’t mind summer so much, but summer fashion is really not my favorite. With fall right around the corner {please, please, pretty please}, What I Wore Wednesdays are making a comeback!
I’m totally in love with maxi dresses, but I had a hard time finding ones I really liked that didn’t cost a fortune this summer. {And by a fortune, I mean more than $50. I’m a deal-seeker.}
I found this cute maxi swim coverup dress at Target, of course, and it was less than $20, so I snagged and loved it…
…except for one thing – it’s strapless and doesn’t stay put very well! Being that I’m not a seamstress in any way, I took it with me to my parents’ house this weekend and asked my mom to help me out!
Here is what we came up with…
She just took some simple black fabric and sewed it in a V at the center! I just tie it at the back!
I wore it all day out and about with the kids and it was SO much better than it was before! It actually looks a little dressier than it did before, but I like that! Just more proof that it doesn’t take a lot of effort or money to look put together, even when you’re chasing kiddos around!
I paired it with this silver cuff bracelet from Kitsy Lane which I’m in love with. Unfortunately, it’s sold out, but they have a bunch of other great cuffs to choose from! Things sell pretty fast when they’re on sale over there!
Thanks, Mom, for making this dress more wearable for me!
Have you ever made over a piece of clothing to make it work better for you? Are you a seamstress or do you have to rely on someone else like me?

Super cute!! I can’t sew worth a darn so my mother-in-law is my go to resource any time I need anything fixed or altered. I keep meaning to learn because it seems like you have so many more options when you know how to alter something.
Adorable. And the strap is MOMMY Proof – this strapless thing always makes me nervous around my toddler!
So glad you are back with WIWW!
The way you styled it is so chic! I love your earrings most, though. 🙂
