If your weather is anything like ours, we’re in this in-between pattern where the mornings are cool and crisp, but the afternoons can get pretty warm. I always struggle with how to dress while transitioning to fall because I really just want to be wearing my jeans and boots and sweaters all the time, but I know I will be quite uncomfortable later in the day.
A few wardrobe staples become my best friends during this summer-fall transition:
- layering tees + tanks
- denim jacket
- cropped leggings
- lightweight scarves
- maxi skirts + dresses
My outfit today is an example of my typical summer-fall transitional outfit…
Each of these items on their own are very simple, so you can’t go wrong throwing them together to layer for the cooler mornings. The maxi skirt won’t let me get too warm when it reaches 80 degrees this afternoon, and of course, the denim jacket can be removed as the temps heat up!
I really like the color white, but wearing a plain white t-shirt is pretty boring, so I love to spice it up with a lightweight scarf or a statement necklace like this one from Cents of Style…
Cents of Style has TONS of cute statement necklaces at really affordable prices and shipping is always free! Get one in a bold color because statement necklaces are supposed to be fun! Oh, and my set included matching earrings, so no extra thought required there!
And shoes…somedays I stick with flip flops because they are easy, but I use ballet flats and TOMS to keep my toes warm for the cool mornings. These are my fave…
I got these emerald sparkle TOMS during a zulily sale {so they were a STEAL} and I can’t even tell you how much fun they are! And they are great for everything I have to do mom-related – running errands, chasing an 18-month-old, going to the park…
If you’re looking for a lightweight scarf to pair with your basic summer-fall look, don’t forget the Stars + Stripes Scarf sale at Cents of Style is only through the end of September! The scarf is only $9.95 and $1 of each scarf sold will go to help female veterans through Final Salute, Inc.! The code is FALLSCARF at checkout!
What are your favorite clothing items for this summer-fall transition?
What I Wore link-ups are happening over at The Pleated Poppy right now, so head on over there for some style inspiration from lots and lots of women!
I have to tell you this, I’ve been wearing the same 7 items of clothing for the month (minus the Husker game on Saturday because I really wanted to wear Husker attire!) – have you read 7 by Jen Hatmaker? Do. It’s worth the read and the conviction – anyway basically because I have been just really selfish and thinking that people care what I wear. I thought about them when I got dressed, so this is my attempt to not care. Silly thing is, only one friend has asked me about it (I’ve told her about the book and she noticed I was wearing this one top a lot lately), but otherwise no one has said a thing. Either they’re too embarrassed by my seemingly wearing the same clothes every day (mostly) or they just don’t care. I’m going with the second. Hilarious thing is, my husband hasn’t noticed at all. At. all.
I have read that book and it is fabulous! I’m so glad to know someone else who has tried the 7 clothing items experiment! I’ve considered trying it some day – might be interesting with the drastic weather changes that happen here in a month!
Wow, that necklace is to die for!! Love the color <3
Visiting from the linkup. I'd love for you to come over by blog too and leave your thoughts on my latest post: http://www.fashchronicles.blogspot.com
Cute outfit! I agree, the whole weather being crazy is hard to dress for, and hard to dress the kids, too!
GREAT necklace and what FUN sparkly TOMS (made me think of a mermaid)
