Thankful, Grateful, Blessed, and a FREE Tee!

I received this shirt to review. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.

Thankful. Grateful. Blessed.

Do you know what these words make me feel?

These three words make me feel cozy. Warm and fuzzy.

Maybe it’s because we talk a lot in the fall about thankful, but I think it goes deeper than that.

Gratitude does not come naturally to us. It is something we must practice frequently in order to make it a more regular part of our lives. I became more fully aware of just how little I was giving thanks for the things around me when I first encountered the writings of Ann Voskamp. Her simple, but powerful idea of counting the gifts in our days changed everything.

Here is what I found: when I am deliberately looking for the gifts in my life AND giving thanks for them, I can’t help but be filled with joy. I feel warm and cozy, wrapped in the knowledge that God’s love is everywhere in my life, present in sunrise and dishes dirtied by my children and the kiss from my husband as he gets home from work.

When I’m giving thanks, I am lighter, not weighed down by the stress, but lifted by gratitude. This changes not only how I feel, but how I act:

“A life contemplating the blessings of Christ becomes a life acting the love of Christ.” – Ann Voskamp

I can tell you that in this season of life, the thanksgiving has slowed greatly as busyness takes its place. It shows up in how I feel and how I treat those around me. Then this shirt showed up on my doorstep:

thankful-shirt-up-close

I think Cents of Style has been reading my mind because I just had to smile and know God was sending me a message with this shirt. The answer to happiness isn’t in doing more or having more – it’s in the gratitude for what we already have surrounding us. I started looking for gifts and wouldn’t you know? I felt warm and cozy and happy because I have so much to be thankful for, even in a stressful season.

thankful-outfit-1

“Eucharisteo—thanksgiving—always precedes the miracle.” – Ann Voskamp

This is it, friends. We give thanks because it shifts our focus off of us and gives glory to God, and then comes the miracle – we are changed. Thanksgiving isn’t just a day on the calendar – it is an every day act that will transform us.

Five Prints for Your Fall Wardrobe + How to Wear Them!

I have included affiliate links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

I’m obsessed with everything about fall. It is driving me nuts that the weather is not lining up with this week’s official change in season because I want to wear all the fall things! My closet is full of fun fall outfits just waiting to be worn: layering ideas, cozy fabrics, boots + boot socks…I could go on and on!

Since this is the first week of fall, let’s talk about what to include in those outfits as the temps change. Patterns are everywhere, being mixed and matched, and I’m loving so many of them! Here are my five favorite patterns for this fall, plus two extras I just couldn’t resist and ideas of how to wear them all!

Five Prints for Your

Dots

Fall Style Dots Blog

I love a good polka dot, but any dots or spots will work! This splotchy dot tank (similar) from Banana Republic Factory is a great fabric that can be worn with a classy black pencil skirt for a dressier occasion or dressed down with jeans and an olive button down. Other items pictured: Merona olive button down from Target, hi-rise jeggings from American Eagle, mustard mocs from Noelle Mae Boutique

Floral

Fall Style Floral Blog

I use to shy away from florals and there are still some I’m not crazy about, but subtle floral prints like this one make me all swoony and romantic now. I truly believe there is a floral print out there for every woman because they come in so many sizes and colors. I’m digging this floral tunic from Zulily because of it’s unique pattern and fall colors. It was just meant to be worn with cowboy boots this fall, don’t you think? When you search for fall florals, think darker colors and neutrals that can be easily layered as the months get colder. Other items pictured: cowboy hat from Target, Willow boots from Lane Boots, brown jeggings from WalMart

Geometric/Tribal

Fall Style Geometric Blog

I can’t be the only one who is loving all the flowing cardigans and tunics featuring geometric shapes and tribal themes! I love that these prints make a bold statement, but also come in classic black and white, colors any woman can wear with confidence! This Target baby doll dress is an amazing mix of geometric shapes, flowing silhouette, and muted colors. I can pair it with so many layers very easily – jean jacket or vest, leather jacket, and even this lace cardigan. Embrace geometry this fall and add some feminine touches to make it your own. Other items pictured: Josie tunic cardigan from Evy’s Tree, jeggings from American Eagle, Steve Madden ankle boots (similar)

Animal Print

Fall Style Leopard Blog

My seven-year-old will love that I included this one. He’s a big fan of leopards and every time I wear leopard print, he compliments me. It’s super cute. And animal print is super cute, especially because it is practically a neutral these days! I picked up this adorable leopard print baseball tee at Charming Charlie’s and added a lace tank top extender underneath, for extra coverage with the sheer fabric and lengthwise. I will be wearing this top like crazy this fall. If leopard isn’t your thing, try zebra print for a walk on the wild side! Other items pictured: Cello Skinny Distressed Boyfriend Jeans and lace tank top extender from Noelle Mae Boutique, ankle booties from Amazon (less than $20!)

Plaid

Fall Style Plaid Blog

Fall and plaid are like best friends. I was dying to wear plaid on the first day of fall, but it was just too warm. It was sad. This beauty of a plaid shirt is from Costco. It was less than $15. I should have bought more. You can’t go wrong with plaid – with a puffer vest, layered over a striped shirt, or like this, with lace and leggings and boots. I might not have tried this look a year ago, but it’s one of my favorites for this autumn. Rugged and ruffled are a perfect match. Other items pictured: lace tank top extender from Noelle Mae Boutique, Hue leggings, Mitscoots boot socks (use HWTB20 for 20% off), Lands’ End riding boots (several years old, but still amazing).

BONUS: Stripes + Camo

Fall Style Stripes Camo Blog

Plaid + lace felt like a stretch for me at first, but now I’m loving mixing and matching, so this combo has me all giddy! The classic striped top can be worn a million ways. Camo is popping up on everyone. They are both so neutral that putting them together looks natural, but also a little funky. This basic H&M top is the perfect, inexpensive striped top. The camo pants (same cut pant) were a clearance rack score at the American Eagle outlet. I like to add a metallic touch and a classic solid to balance it all out. Take a chance on these bonus prints this fall – and bonus points for wearing them together! Other items pictured: GAP denim jacket (old), Wild Copper Tieks

Ok, fall weather! We’ve got our favorite prints all picked out + we’re ready for you!

What I Wore

I received some of these items to review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post. I have included affiliate and referral links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

Yesterday it “dipped” into the upper 70s for a high and it was just enough to give me hope that fall is just around the corner! But we still had plenty of highs in the 90s over the past week, so my outfits were a little all over the place, from tank top + shorts to jeans + long sleeves!

Here is what I wore this week…

IMG_9980

I learned my lesson early: a hot day at the zoo means hair up and cool clothes. I’m still loving this “Be Strong and Courageous” tank from Zoe Clothing Company from last summer and I’m happy to say it’s still available! Polka dots are the best.

IMG_9994

This is my excited look because my “Mothers of Boys” shirt from The MOB Society fundraiser showed up this week! Isn’t it super cute?! My oldest boy told me I needed to get pink so I listened and I love it. We’ll be doing more t-shirt designs in the future, so stay tuned!

The tee is even better when paired with the Josie bomber from Evy’s Tree. Warning: you’ll see that bomber again in this post. And the jeans + boots are from Noelle Mae Boutique! Don’t forget, you can still get 15% off your NMB order through tonight (Wednesday) at midnight CST with the code HOMEBLOG at checkout!

IMG_0009

Another summery day, another summery outfit: Banana Republic outlet tank + a skirt I found at my local grocery store for just $10 (seriously!) + Saltwater Sandals. I wasn’t so sure about the skirt length at first, but it’s amazingly comfortable and I think it will look adorable with cowboy boots + a denim jacket this fall!

IMG_0028

I told you you’d see that bomber again! That’s because I’m totally falling in love with lace and this bomber is just the perfect amount for any outfit. I wore it to church with this $9 Target clearance maxi dress, a necklace from Kohl’s from YEARS ago, and Clarks wedge sandals. I’ll be wearing all of this together again!

IMG_0057

And yesterday, at last, fall started to peak through. I’m embracing the fall transition with distressed jeans (same from NMB above – use HOMEBLOG for 15% off), ankle boots (less than $20 on Amazon!), and the fall colors in this Elegantees tee + Starfish Project necklace! Also, lace top extenders are the best fashion invention ever. Jaime gets in different top and dress extenders in all the time over at Noelle Mae Boutique, so keep an eye out for some to try!

I can’t decide which fall clothes I’m most excited to wear! Hoodies, jeans, boots, scarves…happy sigh…

What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

Backyard Football Therapy

Saturday wasn’t the best day for our beloved Nebraska Cornhusker football team. We were crushed by the way it all went down, losing on a last second Hail Mary touchdown and all.

Backyard Football 15

The Hubby gets all the dad points, though, because instead of sulking, as we both wanted to do, he gathered the boys and headed to the backyard for a game of football. And I took my camera out there to capture the fun.

I think it was good therapy for all of us.

Back to School with OshKosh B’Gosh!

I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for OshKosh B’Gosh. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

You may recall how my boys fell in love with OshKosh B’Gosh clothes this summer. They seriously love shopping at OshKosh B’Gosh and wear their OshKosh clothes all the time. The active clothes and graphic tees have been their favorite!

We headed back to our local OshKosh B’Gosh outlet store to do some back-to-school shopping and we were not disappointed!

OshKosh Back to School

Back-to-school season is completely different this year as we are sending our boys to school for the first time. They are going to school in style with the great shirts they picked out from OshKosh’s new Black, White, and Indigo collection!

OshKosh Little J #1 OshKosh Little J #2

Little J is in second grade and is a big fan of this glow-in-the-dark baseball tee. It is a great piece to transition to fall – long-sleeved but lightweight and super fun – just like my Little J!

OshKosh Big J #1 OshKosh Big J #2

Big J just started fourth grade and he likes to look sharp. I think he looks very handsome in this dark denim shirt that pulls from the OshKosh jeans tradition but with a modern twist. OshKosh B’Gosh jeans are well loved and always in style. I think we can say the same about this shirt!

OshKosh Double J #1 OshKosh Double J #2

Double J is home with Mommy and loving the one-on-one time, but he didn’t want to miss out on the back-to-school styles! He went with glow-in-the-dark like his big brother. This another great fall piece with a little more warmth than the baseball tee and lots of fun details!

OshKosh Crazy Boys

All three of these fabulous shirts are from the Black, White, and Indigo line which also includes jeans and comfy pants. You’ll want to head to your local OshKosh B’Gosh store to check out this line as well as the B’Gosh Blue Jeans and the World’s Best Overalls! Just One More Reason To Love Fall…

What could have been a burdensome afternoon of yard work before any sleet/snow possibly hits this week became just one more reason to love fall.

The Hubby did most of the hard work of clearing out dead branches and tall grasses, while I did some bagging, raking, and weed killing. The boys were actually quite helpful, but also spent much of the time collecting pine cones, climbing trees, and putting together a leaf pile to jump in.

And that leads me to these additions to my “Reasons to Love Fall” list…

What I’m Loving: Fall 2014

I think these are my favorite kinds of posts because they function like my brain – jumping all over the place to share the things I’m loving right now! And I love reading “What I’m Loving” posts from others because they always share the best recommendations!

My very own Avengers

Avengers 2014 Captain America 2014 Iron Man 2014 Thor 2014

Taylor Swift, 1989

TS 1989

I don’t think I could have named a single Taylor Swift song before this album came along. It’s not that I didn’t like her. I just don’t listen to much country music. Then everybody and their dog was talking about “Shake It Off,” so I listened. It was fun. Those same people plus a bunch more started raving about the new album. And I caved. I. LOVE. IT. Get it on iTunes or Amazon or get the deluxe edition with a few extra songs at Target. Trust me.

Fleece-lined tights + leggings

I actually discovered these last year, but I’m ready to enjoy them all fall and winter this year. I love them for the warmth and greater structure they provide versus regular leggings. I managed to score some cute ones at our local Target before they sold out, but the fleece-lined leggings and tights were already pretty picked over! You can find them online all over the place, but get them before it gets too cold and they’re all sold out!

Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full by Gloria Furman

This book is going to get it’s own post when I finish it, but don’t wait. Start reading it now. It’s full of Gospel and truth and grace. I needed this exact book at this exact stage in my life as a mother and it is NOT a parenting book. More to come when I finish it very soon.

Matching Converse

Converse

My oldest son and I have matching Converse All-Stars right now. Well, his are a cooler color, but still. He thinks it is awesome that we have the same shoes which makes me love it even more. I love pairing them with different outfits in new ways – jeans, skirts, even dresses! And they are super comfy. The shoes are great, but I love this connection with my boy the most.

ABLEscarf_natural_floor-600x800

the ABLE scarf

You know of my love for fashionABLE and the brand new ABLE scarf tells their story of providing jobs and sustainable income for women. Those words on the scarf? That is their story, the story of what they are able to do because of the purchases you make through fashionABLE. I could not be more excited to wear this scarf and those words and spread the word for such a wonderful organization! When you follow this link, you’ll get 10% off your order! Use the code ABLE at checkout today {11/3/14} to get free shipping!

Since fall is my favorite season, I could probably do five more posts just like this one with more things I love, but I’ll stop there because I want to know…

Fall Family Fun!

The past week has been full of all sorts of fall family fun – my favorite kind of fun! I recently wrote on the Tommy Nelson blog about simple fall break ideas – things to do locally when you can’t get away for long but want to enjoy some autumnal activities! Here’s what we’ve been up to as we enjoy the change in seasons…

First stop: the pumpkin patch!

It was super fun to meet up with blog reader and Miracle Marathon team member Erika, her boys, and her mom! We all enjoyed the activities, the walk, and each other’s company! We also met Curt Tomasevicz, former Husker football player and Olympic bobsledder! How fun that he let us hold his Olympic medals?!

Speaking of the Miracle Marathon, the miles have been logged, but it’s not too late to donate! I still have a ways to go to reach my $272 goal, but you can help me out and give until November 1st!

Don’t forget to check out my fall break ideas over at Tommy Nelson to make the most of my favorite season!

What I Wore: Fall Capsule Wardrobe {Vol. 1}

I have included affiliate links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

This fall capsule wardrobe thing has me back in the swing of What I Wore Wednesday! It’s been a few weeks since I committed to my capsule wardrobe and I am still loving it! I have not felt limited for outfit choices at all. I am dying for fall weather to kick in full throttle so I can start layering more!

Here’s what I wore in the past few weeks from my capsule wardrobe…

WIWW 10:8 1

striped tunic – H&M, white jeans – Target, flats – The Root Collective, necklace – Charming Charlie’s

WIWW 10:8 2

grey tee – Old Navy, skinny jeans – Target, grey ankle boots – Steve Madden, Genet scarf – fashionABLE {available for a limited time through Kickstarter right now!}, Mamuye tote – fashionABLE

black drape tank – Everlane, Josie hoodie – Evy’s Tree, red jeans – Target, Tierdrop necklace – Noonday Collection, Willow boots – Lane Boots

WIWW 10:8 4

navy u-neck tee – Everlane, vest – made from fashionABLE scarf, jeans – Ann Taylor {thrifted}, flats – The Root Collective, sunglasses – H&M

Packers tee – Target, Packers hat – Scheels…and the PACKERS WIN!

WIWW 10:8 6

Brooke tunic + infinity scarf – Evy’s Tree, black leggings – Target, moccasin boots – Minnetonka

white tee + black maxi – GAP, scarf – fashionABLE, wild copper ballet flats – Tieks

be kind to you tee – Revelation Wellness, white jeans – Target, necklace – The Root Collective, denim stripe TOMS

That last tee is a new addition to the capsule and I have just a couple more to introduce to you next week! One of the advantages of this capsule wardrobe thing is how it has curbed my impulse shopping. While I was in Nashville, we spent an afternoon at a mall and I didn’t even feel tempted to buy any clothes! I did snag some new sunglasses, but that’s it! I love that I have a well-thought-out plan for the season to save me money, time, and space!

So what have you been wearing lately? Any new fall favorites? Have you taken the capsule wardrobe plunge?!

Fall Ethical Fashion Must-Haves

I have included affiliate links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

Before we dive in to my fall capsule wardrobe next week, I wanted to take a moment to share a few of my favorite pieces for the fall that are ethically made. I’m not in a place where I can buy everything fair-trade, but I sure am a lot more aware of my purchases and always have my eyes open for new places to buy clothing and accessories that are ethically sourced.

I could do a post every day about ethically-made pieces I love, so it was a challenge to narrow down this list, but here are a few of my favorites for fall right now…

Fall Ethical Fashion Must-Haves (1)

clockwise starting from the top right…

Game Day Selam scarf by fashionABLE – Fashion + football = two of my favorite things in the world. They have all sorts of team colors available now, with more coming soon!

Teshome leather wrap bracelets by fashionABLE – I wear one or two or three of these every single day. They are perfect for stacking!

The Geno women’s houndstooth socks by Mitscoots – Fun socks on a mission to give socks AND employ people. Plus they are super comfy.

Brynnda custom bag by Better Life Bags – Favorite purse I’ve ever owned and you can customize it with whatever fabrics your heart desires. See my Brynnda here.

Grey diamond ballet flats by The Root Collective – Grey is THE hot color for the fall and goes with everything. I love knowing that Otto made my shoes and is getting paid a fair wage for making them!

White tagua seed earrings by The Root Collective – Yep. I wear these several times a week. They are neutral and so light!

Faith, Hope, and Love Block Print Wallet by JOYN for DaySpring – This print is just fabulous and screams fall! Use the code SAVE20GIFTS to get 20% off!

French Terry shirt in Midnight by Everlane – I love my Everlane shirts and I’ve heard this is the softest sweatshirt around. You can check out all the factories Everlane products are made in right on their website. Love that transparency.

Teal Sankofa necklace by Johari Creations – How gorgeous is this necklace?! I can picture it sprucing up a plain tee/maxi skirt outfit or with a chambray shirt and black skinnies!

The color grey, lots of leather, tribal prints – what fall trends are you loving?

What ethical fashion companies do you love?
