We Are His Reflection

Every Sunday, the sermons at our church are so challenging to me. I LOVE that.

This week, our lead pastor touched on Matthew 7:12…

Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.

Of course, most of us know this as “The Golden Rule.” It is repeated by parents all over the world, countless times a day, usually encouraging better sibling relations! I know, I’ve used it for that very thing.

Back to where I was going…

During the sermon, it was mentioned that we are supposed to “look like our Father,” just as children often resemble their parents. And this thought came to mind…

We are to continually strive to be more like Jesus, but the majority of that needs to be how we ACT and not what we SAY.

We are not God, but we ARE His reflection here on earth.

People aren’t going to look at us and say, “There is God.” But they should be able to look at us, and what we do, and see the resemblance.

Imagine you are at a lake in the mountains. When you see the mountain’s reflection in the lake, you don’t think that is the actual mountain. It is a little blurry, not perfect, the mountain is MUCH bigger than the reflection…but you CAN tell it is the mountain being reflected. You know the source of the image.

And that’s how it is with us.

We’re not perfect. Our lines can get a little blurry at times. God is MUCH bigger than us.

But people should be able to look at the body of Christ and say “I recognize God’s reflection there.”

And the root of it all is found in Matthew 7:12.
