Yesterday it “dipped” into the upper 70s for a high and it was just enough to give me hope that fall is just around the corner! But we still had plenty of highs in the 90s over the past week, so my outfits were a little all over the place, from tank top + shorts to jeans + long sleeves!

Here is what I wore this week…

I learned my lesson early: a hot day at the zoo means hair up and cool clothes. I’m still loving this “Be Strong and Courageous” tank from Zoe Clothing Company from last summer and I’m happy to say it’s still available! Polka dots are the best.

This is my excited look because my “Mothers of Boys” shirt from The MOB Society fundraiser showed up this week! Isn’t it super cute?! My oldest boy told me I needed to get pink so I listened and I love it. We’ll be doing more t-shirt designs in the future, so stay tuned!

The tee is even better when paired with the Josie bomber from Evy’s Tree. Warning: you’ll see that bomber again in this post. And the jeans + boots are from Noelle Mae Boutique! Don’t forget, you can still get 15% off your NMB order through tonight (Wednesday) at midnight CST with the code HOMEBLOG at checkout!

Another summery day, another summery outfit: Banana Republic outlet tank + a skirt I found at my local grocery store for just $10 (seriously!) + Saltwater Sandals. I wasn’t so sure about the skirt length at first, but it’s amazingly comfortable and I think it will look adorable with cowboy boots + a denim jacket this fall!

I told you you’d see that bomber again! That’s because I’m totally falling in love with lace and this bomber is just the perfect amount for any outfit. I wore it to church with this $9 Target clearance maxi dress, a necklace from Kohl’s from YEARS ago, and Clarks wedge sandals. I’ll be wearing all of this together again!

And yesterday, at last, fall started to peak through. I’m embracing the fall transition with distressed jeans (same from NMB above – use HOMEBLOG for 15% off), ankle boots (less than $20 on Amazon!), and the fall colors in this Elegantees tee + Starfish Project necklace! Also, lace top extenders are the best fashion invention ever. Jaime gets in different top and dress extenders in all the time over at Noelle Mae Boutique, so keep an eye out for some to try!

I can’t decide which fall clothes I’m most excited to wear! Hoodies, jeans, boots, scarves…happy sigh…

What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?

YAY for Wednesday!

Yep, we love Wednesdays around here! The boys are all excited for their first night of AWANA and I get to do a fun fashion recap for the week. Winning!

Here’s a look at what I wore this week AND you’ll want to stick around to the end for a fun discount on my favorite clothes!IMG_9854

In my search for a for a cute, casual black skirt, I stumbled upon this beauty from Liz Alig! Liz Alig is all about being fashion forward in an ethical way. They work with fair-trade producers and eco-friendly fabrics. Super cute dresses, shirts, skirts – they have it all! This is the Chinna skirt, a fair-trade skirt from India made from 100% organic cotton. It’s super comfy and has POCKETS! I wasn’t sure I could pull off the high-waisted skirt look, but it’s really fun! I love this unique skirt and the great company behind it. I paired the skirt with a fun pineapple tank from WalMart, the Aztec Chevron necklace from Beautiful + Beloved, and my Saltwater Sandals.

I’m going to transition now to my love for a particular mom-owned boutique. I’ve been wearing something from Noelle Mae Boutique every single day of this current week and I’m not one bit sorry. Let me highlight a few favorites and if you see something you like here, I have a discount for you to use while you shop!

Wifey Pink Skirt Sitting Blog

You already know about this Wifey tee, but I couldn’t help to share it again because it is so cute and super soft. This tee runs a little small – I wear a medium instead of my usual x-small or small. To make this tee even better, Noelle Mae Boutique (NMB) offers it for just $16.99!

Floral Sleeve Tee

I dressed in NMB from top to bottom for our lazy Sunday! The hat is from Target, but everything else can be found at NMB! I adore gray tees, so this floral sleeve tee speaks my love language with a fun little extra flair on the sleeves. And it’s SUPER SOFT. I think Jamie finds the softest tees anywhere. The jeans are Cello skinny boyfriend jeans, also from NMB. I like the open distressing on these because it is at the knees and not showing through anywhere inappropriate! I don’t see the skinny version on NMB right now, but these are very similar, just not as skinny! Even my sandals are from NMB, the Emilio II Sandals which are on sale for just $15 right now!

BeYouTiful Tee

I had some deep thoughts while wearing this BeYoutiful tee. You can read those thoughts on Instagram, but I have exciting news about the tee – it is a custom order tee and Jamie has opened up orders right now just because my IG friends asked for it! The tee comes in a few colors and is a ladies cut. I’m wearing a medium in this picture which is a little roomy and longer on me. I could probably do a small, too, and be ok! Don’t miss this opening to order you own! The necklace is my favorite from Work of Worth and I can’t even remember where I got the skirt!

Vintage Tee

Let’s finish off the week with one more great tee from NMB! The Vintage tee is classy and comfy, making it easy to dress down with denim shorts or dress up with black skinnies. There are only a few left on the site, so grab yours before they are gone because you will want to wear it ALL the time. I had to wear it with my brand new Waterfall necklace, a piece from the new Local + Global line from fashionABLE and Miriam Collection. This necklace could be worn with anything – it is so versatile. The bag is also fashionABLE and the sandals are from Target!

Ok, now that you want to order all the things from Noelle Mae Boutique, how about a discount?! This code is just for you because I love you and know you will love NMB as much as I do! Did I mention she doesn’t charge shipping? So awesome. From now through midnight Wednesday, September 9th, use the code HOMEBLOG at checkout to get 15% off your order! I’m totally drooling over the stuff she has added for fall, so this is a great time to shop!

**Noelle Mae Boutique also has a great Facebook group where Jamie shares pre-order opportunities and members post how they are wearing NMB items! If you’d like to be added, leave your email address in the comments or send me an email at homewiththeboys at gmail dot com!**

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Five Outfits for Football Season!

I have included affiliate and referral links below. When you purchase through these links, I may receive a small commission. Thank you for supporting this site and our sponsorship of our Compassion child, Samson!

I love football.

Let me try that again.

That’s better.

I’m a lifelong Nebraska Huskers and Green Bay Packers fan. I watch preseason games. I follow my teams in the off-season. I play fantasy football and last year I won my co-ed league. Football season is my favorite season.

With all of that said, it should come as no surprise that I also love football fashion! College football is right around the corner – my Huskers play their first game in less than one week- so it’s time to plan out those outfits for football season!

Here’s the thing about football season here in Nebraska: when the season starts at the end of August, the games can be HOT. That sun reflecting off the skyboxes creates a microwave-like feeling within the stadium. But come November, the last games of the season could be in an ice storm. You’ll find every kind of weather in those in-between months, so whether you’re going to a game or watching it with friends, we need to be prepared with a variety of outfits!

Five Football Outfits

Here are some of my favorite ways to show your team spirit throughout the football season!

Football Outfit #1

Football Outfit #1

This is what I grab for those late summer/early fall games – a team tee (with a little bling!), dark denim shorts (that won’t show any game food stains), a hat (to keep the sun off my face), and comfortable shoes (a must when walking from your car to the game and hiking up to your seat multiple times). My hair has to be up or pulled back when it’s hot or I will sweat to death, so a side braid under the hat is a fun option! And don’t forget the sunscreen!

Football Outfit #2

Football Outfit #2

It makes me pretty happy when I can start wearing jeans on a regular basis and these KanCan jeans are the first jeans I will grab for game day this year! I absolutely love them paired with my new t-shirt from BeeRich Designs. Ashley, the designer behind BeeRich Designs, comes up with the absolute cutest designs and she is based right here in Nebraska!

Football Outfit #2b

I love how soft this tee is! The glitter Nebraska state design is feminine while highlighting my love for this state and football! BeeRich Designs can make a tee to highlight your favorite state, team, and sport! Just take a look around her Etsy shop and you fall in love, too. Use the code HOMEBOYS15 to get 15% off your BeeRich Designs order anytime, but hurry if you want your shirt for football season!

Football Outfit #3

Football Outfit #3

Football and hoodies are the perfect match. But hoodies don’t have to look frumpy! For this look, I paired a great red Evy’s Tree hoodie with a basic black top and dark jeans, but added some extra flair with team color jewelry and comfy animal print shoes. Comfy, but cute – that’s the way to go on game day!

Football Outfit #4

Football Outfit #4

Maybe a hoodie isn’t your style! A basic black cardigan is a great finishing piece for the fall. It allows you to wear your favorite team tee without getting cold and it pulls together an outfit in a heartbeat! For the comfortable shoes in this outfit, TOMS are the way to go. But my favorite piece of this whole outfit is the cute Nebraska necklace from Earthen Joy! I found this lovely shop at our farmers’ market and knew a white state necklace would be the perfect way to top off a game day outfit! She has a cute red option as well, but I can wear the white with just about anything!

Football Outfit #5

Football Outfit #5

So, what happens when you have to be somewhere else on game day, like a conference or event? That happened to me a couple years back and I just had to wear my scarlet and cream even though I couldn’t watch ! There are so many fun ways to go dressy and support your team! I chose a simple, soft gray dress and black riding boots to go with the real star of this football show: the Game Day scarf from fashionABLE! The Game Day scarf comes in all your favorite team colors and shows off your team spirit for a casual or dressy look. The scarf is fabulous, but the real win in all of this is how you invest in the life of the woman who made this scarf when you  purchase!

I feel like I could style five more outfits for you right now because I just adore getting dressed up to cheer on my teams, but I hope these five outfits give you some fun inspiration for the upcoming season! Or maybe I need to do a Packers version next?!

I’d love for you to share – what’s your favorite game day look? How do you like to show off your team spirit?

What I Wore: Winter Storm Warning

That’s right. We have a winter storm warning issued for this afternoon. For those of you who don’t live around this kind of weather, that means snow, wind, and COLD.

Don’t worry, I’m prepared…

I have my favorite warm GAP sweater, a cozy cowl, Old Navy Diva dark jeans, and the warmest Kalso Earth Prance Boots

And I tend to be a worrier when storms approach, so I threw on my Lisa Leonard “It Is Well With My Soul” necklace as a reminder that everyone I love is in His hands!

As a side note, did you know emerald green is the color of the year for 2013 according to Pantone? Well, as a green lover and descendant of the Irish, that just makes me super happy. I will wear my emerald green proudly!

What do you like to cozy up in when the weather outside is frightening?

What I Wore {36 Weeks!}

pleated poppyThis time of year, I’m usually doing lots of layering with scarves and warm sweaters and the like.

This Monday, I wore capri pants.

I live in Nebraska, right?!

Trying to decide if I miss the bundling up or not…

Of course, I’m wearing my fave Old Navy tanks and comfy TOMS with those capri pants. I was thinking about getting a pair of the brand new, super cute TOMS ballet flats that officially went on sale today, but I just couldn’t stomach that price tag – ouch!

Yesterday was a little cooler – and by cooler, I mean 60 degrees for a high instead of 70 – so I pulled out a tan jacket to wear in the morning and evening. My favorite part of this outfit is the new flats I bought for only $10 on clearance at Payless! Love the neutral color and the big old flower at the front :)

Like I mentioned, I really like putting together cozy, cute outfits for the fall and winter so I’m not sure how I feel about this spring-like weather! But I DO like not having to bundle the kiddos up every time we leave the house!

How about you? What season do you enjoy dressing for the most?

31 Days: Comfy Doesn’t Have to Be Sloppy

Today is my day at the Tommy Nelson blog! Head on over there to read about teaching our children that God IS good all the time, but sometimes life just isn’t fair!

Confession: I do not miss wearing so-called “comfy” clothes all day long. Not for a second.

Just so you know, “before” I sometimes wouldn’t get dressed for the day until lunch time or later. Often, getting dressed would mean changing from pajama pants to sweat pants.

Of course, I would NEVER wear this stuff out in public, so it would be a mad scramble to throw on something presentable at the last minute just to run to the store.

And imagine how I looked for my husband and children each day – they would never ever say anything, but it was pitiful.

I don’t know if it was laziness or apathy or what, but I never want to go back to that. Getting dressed for each day has changed my daily life.

The excuse I hear the most from women about why they don’t “get dressed” and look more put together for the day each day is that they want to be comfortable.

Ladies, I promise you – you CAN be comfortable while looking put together. If I wasn’t comfortable, I would NOT be wearing these outfits. As a mom of two busy boys, I would not be able to function on a daily basis if I was uncomfortable!

Your assignment is to find the clothes that look good on you that are also comfortable and functional for YOUR day. You can do it!

The things I discovered I’m most comfortable in: dresses with leggings and jeans. Once I figured that out, I could put together outfits by adding tops, accessories and cute shoes.

I’m really excited to pass along to you the challenge that got me out of my jammies/sloppy clothes in the first place. Taking Sarah Mae’s original “Get Dressed” challenge almost a year and a half ago was what started this change for me, and I am SO happy to tell you that challenge is starting up again!

The Get Dressed Challenge! For the next month, you can join Sarah Mae and a group of ladies just like you and me who are wanting to form a habit of getting dressed each day.

This time around she’s calling it “Frumps to Pumps” – love it! You can keep accountable through Sarah Mae’s blog, linking up your own pictures each week, and on Twitter with the hashtag #frumpstopumps! It should be a lot of fun!

I may be in the habit of getting dressed each day already, but I have a few things I can work on still in this area. I need to be ready for the day by 7:30 every day. I would love to do a better job doing my hair each day – and maybe try some new things with it as well!

So I’m taking the “Frumps to Pumps” challenge for the next month – how about you?!

And now for my weekly What I Wore post {now at 20 weeks pregnant – halfway there!}…

Yellow tank dress, black leggings – Target; black tee – GAP Outlet; black flats – Eddie Bauer; fabric flower necklace – made by me; my brand new fabulous handbag – Two Peas in a Pod {more to come on this SOON!}

Teal top, cuffed jeans – hand-me-downs; bronze flats – WalMart; multi-colored bead necklace – Kohl’s

Brown v-neck tee – Old Navy; navy knit skirt – Express; flower pin – The Pleated Poppy; 20 week baby bump – all me :)

Black wrap dress {had it forever, no idea where it’s from!}; black riding boots – Lands’ End; silver ball jewelry – local boutique

Olive green floral tank – Motherhood Maternity; cuffed jeans; necklace, gold sandals – garage sales!

Old Navy Denim jacket – Goodwill; black tank dress, green tank – Old Navy; black leggings – Target; black flats – Eddie Bauer; Love Mercy necklace – Mercy House

And tell me, is getting dressed and ready for the day a struggle for you? If so, what is your biggest hurdle to overcome?

31 Days: Why I Do “What I Wore”

Each and every Wednesday, I link up with the “What I Wore Wednesday” meme hosted by The Pleated Poppy along with hundreds of other women bloggers. Throughout the week, I take picture of my outfits {usually every day} and then I post them here for all to see.

It has everything to do with ACCOUNTABILITY.

“What I Wore Wednesday” is the reason I get out of my jammies every morning. It is the reason I attempt to fo my hair and makeup each day. It is the reason I try to look “put together.”

But the reason for doing “What I Wore” is for my family and myself. Being a mom and wife is my job, and while there is no dress code like there was when I was teaching, I feel much more engaged in everything I do when I have readied myself for the day!

If you look around the What I Wore link-up, you will see women of every shape and size with every kind of style, so it’s NOT about competition or looking like someone else. But I really enjoy getting inspiration every week from real women just like me!

And I find myself trying new things with what I already have in my closet which is almost like buying new clothes!

Don’t these all sound like great reasons to join the fun?

Really, you could find accountability like this with a friend if you don’t blog or aren’t quite comfortable sharing your pictures online for all to see – maybe just text each other in the morning to make sure you’re all “ready” for your day. And send a pic/email of what you’re wearing to them if you need extra motivation!

Make sure you take some time to look around over at the link-up today and think about what you might want to do differently for getting ready each day – do something for yourself that makes you feel beautiful and confident!

It’s not about vanity – it’s about being the best you and looking the part too!

And now that I’ve rambled, here are my pics for the week!

One family baby shower for two first-time mamas-to-be…

But all five cousins there are expecting! Talk about a baby boom! That’s my little sis on the far left in the second pic – don’t you LOVE her polka dot top?!

My outfit: Brown/white maternity dress, orange ring – Kohl’s; denim jacket – GAP {thrifted}; Philippians 4:8 necklace – KraftyKash

Black hoodie, black/white striped maternity top – thrifted; cuffed jeans – hand-me-down; silver ballet flats – Crocs

With the most handsome models around…

Magenta bling tank – GAP Outlet; maternity shorts – borrowed from a friend; necklace – made by me; gray flip flops – Old Navy

Trying a new style – the strapless dress with a tee underneath, inspired by Jess at Allora Handmade in this post! I really liked how it looked but I had to keep pulling the dress up all day! At least there was a tee there to prevent any “wardrobe malfunctions!”

Green dress {that I usually wear with the straps!} – Kohl’s; white tee – Lands’ End; necklace – made by me; gray flip flops – Old Navy

My fall clothes are so sad sitting in my closet as the temps have been in the 80s and 90s this week.

But I’m definitely thinking fall and you can read more about my take on the “in” colors of fall and how to wear them over at Denise in Bloom’s31 Days of Autumn Goodness” today!

What I Wore {15 Weeks}

pleated poppyIt’s happening…

The regular jeans are starting to get tucked away. The ones that are still out are needing a rubber band to give a little extra room.

Nobody would really say I’m “showing” yet, but I can tell and the pants are the least forgiving in the comfort department!

Magenta bling tank – GAP Outlet; black maternity capris; Old Navy flip flops; gray earrings – local boutique

Black tank dress – Target; Red flower pin – from Relevant last year {can’t remember from who – help me out?!}; Old Navy flip flops

**Here I missed two days of outfits. One was my game day outfit – you’ll see that plenty of times over the next few months, so no worries there! But my church outfit was super cute so I’m bummed I missed that photo! I’ll just have to wear it again sometime!**

Brown shrug, orange tank, orange ring – Kohl’s; dark cuffed jeans {NOT maternity!} – hand-me-downs; bronze flats – WalMart; fall-colored bracelet – garage sale!

Gray cardigan – Kohl’s; Dusky purple beaded shirt – DownEast Basics; dark cuffed jeans {NOT maternity!} – hand-me-downs; silver ruffled flats – WalMart; Relevant necklace – The Vintage Pearl; earrings – local boutique

Now for a reader question…

Where is the best place you have found that fits pear shapes when buying jeans?

Even though I AM a pear shape – smaller on top and through the waist, larger in the hips and bottom – I struggled with this question because…

#1 – Most of my jeans are hand-me-downs and I just make them work.

#2 – I haven’t been shopping for jeans – other than skinny jeans – in a LONG time!

Thankfully, one of my friends came to the rescue. Mindee suggested the “Wendi” jean from The Buckle, saying: “A little spendy, but they make me look 10 pounds lighter!” That totally sells me on them!

I’ve also heard good things about GAP jeans, because they have several different styles that may work for pear shapes depending on just how curvy you are!

Overall, it is a good idea to get jeans that make a straight line from your hip down to your ankle as to not overemphasize the larger curves in your lower half AND to help make your leg appear longer.

And if you find a pair of jeans that fit well in the waist, thigh, & hip area, it is TOTALLY worth it to get them hemmed professionally. DON’T pass up jeans that fit well just because they are too long!

Next week, I’ll be sharing a few tips for apple shapes {larger on top, smaller on bottom}!

Thanks for coming by today! Have a wonderful Wednesday!
