This year is all about a fresh start for us. We moved into a brand new home on December 30th and rang in 2017 surrounded by unpacked boxes, but so grateful and happy to be settling in.

A new year, a new home, a new outlook not clouded by the uncertainty of building timetables and moving dilemmas. I’m breathing a lot easier these days. Making this house into our home as we kick off a new year just feels right. And with a fresh start in a new home, I want to be using things that make it feel clean and fresh and wonderful.

Enter Grove Collaborative.

I had a monthly shipment arrive the week we moved in – a box full of pure joy! Who knew I could be so excited about dish soap and toilet bowl cleaner?

These are a few of my other Grove favorites! I take the cleansing towelettes everywhere – traveling, the gym, and even use them in the evenings before bed! The hand sanitizer spray is super convenient and the hand cream smells LOVELY. The best part of all – everything shows up on my doorstep!

I was skeptical about Grove Collaborative at first, but I have been completely won over by their natural selection, great customer service, and wonderful deals. I want you to give it a try and this Fresh Start offer is a GREAT time to begin your Grove experience!

Giving of Myself {Multitude Monday}

A mother duck plucks feathers from her heart to line her nest. This is what your home, children, husband need of you. Line your life with bits of yourself. Scraps won’t suffice for your children. Ann Voskamp

This quote. It has changed my life.

And I’ve heard similar words before:

“I’m the only mother these children will ever have.”

“Only you can be your husband’s wife.”

But something about the picture of the mama duck actually PLUCKING feathers from her breast is powerful.

That is sacrifice. Close-to-the-heart sacrifice.

Something I’m not as closely associated with as I would like to be.

But as the keeper of my home, THIS is my nest and it is MY giving and sacrifice that will provide a soft, warm place for my children and husband to be cared for, nurtured, and loved.

How can I line that nest?

Getting up early to spend time in the Word and prepare for the day.
Planning ahead to make the most of our time and avoid stress – meal planning, fun activities with the boys, date nights with the hubby.

Creating a pleasant, peaceful, inviting environment in our home, especially in the kitchen and living room where we spend most of our time. {Courtney is focusing on her kitchen this week and I am joining her!}
Praying over my family each day and throughout the day.
Realizing the online world will go on without me but not my family.

As I write these words, I am grateful for a God who gives me these gentle reminders and second chances to live out the life He has planned for me.

The giving of myself as a wife and mother. And aren’t those smiles TOTALLY worth it?!

holy experience

Slowly counting my one thousand gifts…

21. Beautiful music by this woman and this woman.

22. The sweet return of Cranberry Splash Sierra Mist.

23. Dimples. Cute, chubby cheeks with dimples.

24. The numerous ways people are changing the world for the better through social media – like this challenge starting today. Won’t you join me?

25. Doors long shut creaking open just a crack…

26. Perfect natural lighting.

27. Words of encouragement.

28. Grandparents who couldn’t love on our children more if they tried.

29. Flavored creamers returning for the holidays: Peppermint Mocha, Pumpkin Spice…mmm…

30. “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” Isaiah 55:11

Gratitude and giving – what a great way to start the month of November. How is your heart stirring in these areas?

Home Challenges: Week 3

Before I talk about home, we have a winner from our first Boys in Motion giveaway! If you have boys, make sure you link up with us on Fridays with an action shot of your boy!

This week’s random winner of a $10 Starbucks gift card from The Boy’s Store is…

Kristina from 3 Under 4!

Congrats Kristina! Send me an e-mail and we’ll get you hooked up!

Well, the candle and music challenges with Courtney were EASY and PERFECT for me.

This week is a little harder but still much needed for me…

List a few of the spots in your home that make you visually stressed because of all the clutter. Now go buy something for that spot – like a basket to put it all in! Work on cleaning up clutter. Throw things away. While you’re at it – clean up some clutter in your spiritual life. What gets in the way of your peace spiritually?

My three clutter problem spots are:

*The kitchen – counters and table

*My dresser

*The foot of Big J’s bed

{I’m sure my hubby is nodding his head right now as he reads this!}

So here we go – we’ll see what I can accomplish before I leave on Thursday!

As far as the Maximize Your Mornings challenge, I was up at 6:00 am EVERY DAY last week AND had great time in the Word before the boys were up! It was WONDERFUL.

Now this week, we’re supposed to add in exercise.

I might have to count packing as my early morning exercise this week and try the “real” stuff next week! But I will do it…I guess…

Still working on closet organization but I did make steps in making our bedroom less cluttered this week – until I started packing of course!

So here is what I would love to know from YOU this week:

#1 – Most cluttered place in your house?

#2 – Favorite music to clean by?

#3 – Do you exercise daily? If so, what do you do?

I need some inspiration! Help a girl out!

And have a blessed week!

Make yourself at home and follow along – we love having you here!

Home Challenges: Week 2

I am SO glad I joined in these two home challenges: Making Your Home a Haven at Women Living Well and ~ Declutter ~ Beautify ~ Create ~ at Sunflower Schoolhouse.

To be perfectly honest, I desperately NEED both of these challenges. But one of them has gone much better than the other so far.

First, the one I am succeeding at…

Last week, I went out and bought a Cinnamon Streusel candle at Target and I have lit that candle in our kitchen EVERY DAY. It smells SUPER yummy and I have actually remembered to pray for peace in our home when I look at that candle! I also get hungry when I smell it.

This week’s challenge:

Play soft music everyday in your home. Choose worship, classical or another form of peaceful music that the family enjoys. Focus on using peaceful words and maintaining peaceful relationships. Remind your family to avoid seething anger, tattling, criticism or back talk. As the wife/mother, work on gentleness this week.

I already have great music picked out for this – I may have cheated and done a little of this last week too. Overachiever?! Now, the gentleness part may take a little more work…

And now for the harder challenge…

I am officially several weeks behind on this one. By now I should have decluttered the closets and our “master bedroom.” Forget the overachiever status I just mentioned. I have officially F.A.I.L.E.D. in this subject.

But this is my make-up week. Just as soon as I get over this head cold, achy, tired yuckiness, I am kicking it into high gear. And before I leave for Relevant, I will be right on track.

That means several things:

*Clearing unnecessary things out of all closets, especially hall and bedrooms.

*Finding some inexpensive shelving to add to said closets to keep things better organized.

*Doing a major decluttering of my dresser and nightstand. MAJOR.

And that’s just the start. But it IS a start.

Now if I can just get started.

Which leads me to the whole Maximize Your Mornings challenge – which I did well with until the weekend hit. I was up between 6:00 and 6:20 every weekday and before the children every day! I’ll consider that a success.

This week I’m working on my quiet time (yes, I know some of you dread that word, but I do ACTUALLY need it, whatever you call it!) – more focused, more reading, more listening, more open to Him  and His voice in the morning.

And there you go. My post to start the week and attempt to inspire myself.

We’ll see how it works! Here we go…

Have a marvelous Monday!

Monday, Monday: Home, Bible and Morning Edition

After a weekend of reflection, I am ready to jump into this week with new focus and determination! I feel so peppy!

Don’t you just hate people who are this peppy on Monday mornings?!

Too bad!

So what do I have to share with you today?

Oh, lots of good stuff, my friends!

#1 – If you are reading this bright and early Monday morning, I SHOULD be up and happily going about my day thanks to Kat and Michelle and their Maximize Your Mornings challenge!

Inspired To Action Button

This week’s challenge is simple: GET OUT OF BED.

I can do that, right?

Well, just to be sure, I will be adding what time I got up to each post once I am up – 100% honest. How is that for accountability? My goal is 6:00 a.m. each day.

#2 – Guess what?! I finished the ENTIRE BIBLE in 90 DAYS! Oh yeah. I did it. And with exactly 35 minutes to spare.

You would not believe how awesome it feels.

Confession: I was up to more than 25 days behind at one point. And I still finished in 90 days. Now THAT is God at work!

Confession: This is the first time I have actually read the entire Bible straight through. And I am actually ready to get back into reading it more this week. Although just a LITTLE slower this time. Because I’m not THAT crazy.

I’ll be starting back in Paul’s letters this morning – my heart longed to ponder on them more as I raced to the finish line Saturday night.

I must admit, there are books I am not planning on going back to visit any time soon and others that intrigued me greatly. Isaiah is definitely on my list after Paul’s letters.

I am SO grateful to Amy from Mom’s Toolbox for hosting the Bible in 90 Days challenge – what a woman! The next read-through starts in January – check it out!

#3 – I’m joining in on a couple of home challenges right now that are right in line with where my heart is – and needs to be.

For the Making Your Home a Haven Challenge, I am buying a nice big, fall-smelling candle to keep lit in our home. I LOVE Courtney’s idea to pray for peace in our home and lives every time we look at the candle. Beautiful.

PLEASE go over and read Courtney’s post today and know how desperately I am trying NOT to be the woman in House #1. It will be a VERY uphill battle, but 100% worth it. Anyone else with me on this?

And I am joining in on the Declutter~Beautify~Create Challenge over at Sunflower Schoolhouse!

I got started a week late so this is Closet Week. And my motto this week – THROW THROW THROW. (The hubby will be SO excited!) Just to stay accountable, I took some “before” pictures of our closets. Be afraid. Be very afraid. I think I will wait to share them until there is an “after.”

It kind of feels like January 1st around here to me – lots of new goals and a fresh new start. I’m just glad the weather says October and not January!

Any goals you’ve accomplished or started working on lately?

Want to keep up on how all of these challenges turn out here at Home with the Boys? It’s easy to follow along!
