I used to hate the snow.

Back when I had to drive to a rural community for work, I despised it when there was some snow and ice, but not enough to close school. I am a huge scaredy cat when it comes to questionable driving conditions.

So I hated the snow.

(But of course, I loved full-blown snow days  – I WAS a teacher and that meant no school!)

Then I stayed home with the boys.

Last January, we had many snow days in a row. Now, I only partially despised the snow because the hubby had to drive in it, but much better him than me.

I read Facebook and Twitter status after status like this from moms during those few days…

“These children are driving me nuts!”

“Why couldn’t I be at work today instead?!”

“Get the plows out so we can send these children back to school already!”

“We need to get out of this house!!!”

And I was sad.

Not judgmental, because I have totally been there.

Just sad.

Because that string of snow days was one of the biggest blessings of the year for me.

Those snow days were responsible for FORCING me to slow down and CHOOSE to find joy and beauty in my time at home.

And from those days forward, my desire to be home grew and grew.

And the blessings of being home multiplied.

That was a year ago.

The snow started falling yesterday again.

I love the snow.

Off to enjoy a day at home…
